I am not into multicolor prints a lot that i have not thought or researched about it much. As the holiday season is approaching, i am planning to print small gifts. A few of my models requires five color. Neither BS nor OS currently allows use of AMS and external spool at the same time. I know your first response will be “not possible” but I clearly remember watching a video regarding a workaround for this. It was long before i bought BL P1S and now i can not find it. It was kind of an old school manual solution.
If you know the method can you describe it or add a link to a page which does?
I know in general there is a way but don’t have the exact details. It involves editing the G code to insert pauses at the appropriate times so a human can swap spools and purge, then resume.
I haven’t done it to provide more detail and I could be leaving out other key bits (like the G code to insert) but that’s my understanding.
Do you mean load only one spools and trick BS as single color but interrupt it manual pauses?
It will only work for one color per line. Unfortunately my models are 2+ colors per line. Only the top layers are single color and the only time the 5th color comes to play. That is why thought if AMS prints until that point i can move to external spool.
But this gave me an idea. I can still trick BS by pausing at that layer and manually changing the one of the spools with 5th color pretending the same spool.
You can add the pause in Bambu Studio. After you slice the model move the slider on the right to the layer you want to add one and right click. Then you’ll see this:
Read this, I have answered this question several times and provided several examples so you can see.
Provided you only ever have a maximum of 4 colours on any one layer, you can print with as many colours total by being smart with colouring and swapping spools.
Oh I’ve never inserted gcode. If you add the pause using right click it’s going to add the gcode for you. Just color the top layers of the model the same as one of the lower levels and as soon as it swaps from that color to another one you can switch the spool in the AMS and you should be good to go.
As i understand i do not need to insert any gcodes for retract, purge etc. Just the the pause code with right mouse click menu will suffice. But color change should coincide with the beginning of that layer. Printer will do the rest itself.
as an example if i set the colors black>white>pause black, but replace the black with blue, when i resume the printer will purge white and prime blue thinking it is black and continue as normal.
never knew that was there, I often print a hollow object and put money or treat inside as a gift and if i am not sitting there watching the print, i have missed the opportunity before, this is a great feature! thanks for the info!
