How to switch to E3D High Flow ObXidian™ Hotend

I’ve noticed there’s no setting to switch to the E3D High Flow ObXidian™ Hotend in the bamboo studio I’m guessing there should be one because of the difference of speed. Is there a setting to change this? I just didn’t notice or an update. I just didn’t install. Just wondering, do any of you have the nozzle and if so, how do you properly use it in the software?

Have you checked out E3D? They have links to some config files I suspect you’ll import into Bambu Studio.

Thank i found to inport file I just thought seeing that you could buy the nozzle from Bambu labs they have a config

They did have a link when I ordered mine yesterday but apparently they removed the link since then. I just installed the one from E3D and it’s in there as an option in Bambu Studio. Still waiting for my nozzle so I have tested it yet.

I used an ObXidian without issues last year by simply increasing max flow to 150%. Unforrunately, it died as a result of an unrelated poop chute clog.

Having ordered a new ObXidian from Bambu on Tuesday, I was surprised to receive three mails this morning informing me to replace the config file with a new one attached to the mail due to faulty settings.

Still waiting for the nozzle to arrive though.

So seeing that you’ve used it, what settings do you need to change to do it? I know they have an import file for settings, but one of the settings should I change? Because I’m getting mine in a few days never had one before.

When I used it, profiles/config’s were not available. So based on the comments I read, I just increased max flow rate to 150% and was impressed  Everything else I just kept as is.

So seeing there is a config available i should just use that

My E3D just came yesterday and I got the email from sales@bambu as well (benefit from buying direct from Bambu). They linked the latest configs which supercedes the previous published ones. Can’t wait to get it installed :metal:.

Yo do you know if the config for the e3d syncs with bambu handy cus seeing that its flow rate is faster i could see problems could happen with out the config for the e3d

Do you have a link to that? I ordered mine from the site but didnt get any email from Sales with the updated profile. Only one I can find is from E3D’s site, which negates all my existing profiles and makes it so I cant use them. and all the “bambu” profiles are just set to the same flow rate of 29

The config file installed without a problem but it is still locked as “unsuported’ when you try to use it with the current release of Bambu Studio. Perhaps someone using the beta of studio could tell us what the config files look like?

I think what would be best would be to implement supported hot ends like this one {I have put almost 1000 hours on mine over the last year just by kicking the max flow up by 50% and it has been faultless} in the hot end selection spot in Studio.

From the Page in the solved Link but until the switch that activates the Unsupported profiles all we can do is set max flow to about 150% unless you have the time to do the testing work for yourself.

Printing Profiles

Bambu Lab now offers official support for E3D Hotends. Users can download and import the official presets right away (Please upgrade Studio to the latest version available on the official website). For our future plan this year, these officially tuned presets will be directly available in Bambu Studio and Bambu Handy—just like the presets for Bambu Lab’s stock nozzles.

For P1S, please download the configs here.

For P1P, please download the configs here.

For X1 Series, please download the configs here.

Slicing Guidelines

Without changing any settings the E3D ObXidian High Flow hotend provides a smoother more reliable extrusion experience, however to make the most out of the increased volumetric flow rate capacity there are some slicing considerations to bear in mind to get the most out of your new setup.

The simplest change to make is simply to increase the volumetric flow rate limit of the filament profiles and let Bambu Studio handle the rest. Bambu Studio will calculate the speed of the perimeter and infill moves in order to never print above this set limit so by increasing it to an E3D suggested max limit you will see a decrease in overall print time without any extra printer setting changes.

  1. Select the closest generic filament profile, then select edit.
  2. Enable advanced mode.
  3. Overwrite the max volumetric speed value based on our recommended max values.

Cleaning Guidelines

Recommended cleaning methods

  • Nylon cleaning filament (internal cleaning method)
  • Warm pull (internal cleaning method)
  • Cold pull (internal cleaning method)
  • Brass brush (external cleaning method)

Non-recommended cleaning methods

  • Needle (internal cleaning)
  • Steel wire brushes (external cleaning methods)
  • Blow torch (internal/external cleaning method)

hi, i downloaded the profiles but i cant seem to be able to pick them. First time i did it they showed in unsupported profiles so i thoiught i had to re open the app. after reopening it, i re imported the configs but i cant see them anywhere available for selection.

You may have already tried this, but just so you know, I believe the import file is saved as a new printer. Have you checked there? Click on your printer, and it will pop up as a nozzle name and then your printer model.

i just got the 0.6 but there is only 0.4 profiles in the link from e3d ?
any one have a profile ?

You have to take the Xobsidian printer profile that comes with it and you will be able to pick filament profiles. Still I don’t see any difference in speed when comparing nozzles set at slicer level. Benchy prints in 35 min on both side

So basically did the slicing test with PLA matte on a Benchy. Regular nozzle setting prints in 33min, the Xobsidian setting print in 35min. This is crazy ********, how is this even possible with high max flow (21 to 29)? Should I guess the printer profile speed limits were not updated to not limit the max vol being really used?

This is the answer to the settings being greyed out

To be honest I am disappointed with Bambu Lab. So much fuss about this coop with E3D and its completely shitty to be honest. You get new printer profile with custom Filament Profiles but god forbit you want to calibrate your own filaments…yes I do that…you want to create custom filament…impossible because you cant pick the weird custom printer @ Obxidian so any new filament you create is locked because of the profile you picked…aaaah those half ass solutions
