How's the SuperTack plate going for you?

Hey everyone!

Thought it’d be useful to start up a thread talking about the new SuperTack plate, and how people are feeling about it. Could be useful for those that aren’t sure if they want to get it, or want to know more from the user’s experience.

Have you got your plate yet? How’s it going so far?

I got mine. I’ve been running it on a few projects, with PLA Matte, so far. It’s been super awesome. I almost exclusively used the smooth pei plates before. The holding power is nice, and first layers have gone down really well. The print side is smooth but matte-ish. I want to try it out with some of the PETG-HF and transparent PETG, but haven’t got as far yet. I tend to use the textured plate for those filaments, but I would prefer a smooth print side surface finish, so I’m hoping these will work well.

Pulling parts off the plate isn’t as easy as the textured plates and is more in line with the smooth pei plates, although I would say that within that they hold even better.

I get the feeling that small/flattish pieces might be hard to get off of the plate. I don’t really use a scraper, so. With what I’ve done so far it’s been okay, but I can still see that being a pain at some point.

So far, pretty good. I could see it becoming a go-to plate.

well i’m still waiting for mine unfortunately, they broke down my order in three shipments, two of them arrived today, the third - which includes the plate, hasn’t even been handed over to DHL… i would love to give inputs, but i’m guessing i’m in for a long wait :frowning: but happy to hear you are enjoying it, for me the selling point is reduced heat / power consumption, so hoping that i’ll be able to give it a go soon

Prints start MUCH faster now because of the reduced heat needed. It’s refreshing and nice. I want to test out some full plate models that are prone to warping, but haven’t got as far yet. I think the verdict is out a little still. I want to know how it’ll perform in a few key areas still, but overall it’s looking like it’ll be a mainstay along side the other plates.

I feel like I got lucky  I hope everyone else starts getting theirs’s soon. I got some of the new AMS too with it, but haven’t busted that open yet.

Good to hear about the speed, it’s definitely interesting

I’m currently printing a new design that would have benefited greatly from the advertised extra stickiness, I’m actually using 3DLAC to maximize adhesion and will have to put it as a recommendation when I post the model as it’s a tricky design that requires a lot of grip (and putting a brim would be too much cleaning up), I would have liked to use the plate and was hoping that would be also a recommended setup but well, can’t say it without using it  hopefully it will arrive until end of the week, but I’m not holding my breath

It’s strange to receive a printer faster than an accessory… Bambu definitely needs some logistics improvements

Mine just showed up. Guess I’m going to have to update slicer and/or machine firmware to run it correctly.

Kinda diggin the subtle texture and can wait to see what the surface finish ends up being.

*update

Read elsewhere to use use the coolplate setting and turn plate detection off.

Lines went down good and such but holy cow yeah it sticks alright. A little too good. I went with a facedown coaster/ornament type print first go around and that was a nightmare to remove. Even doing the recommended heat it back up technique described on the sales page. I guess skip objects that have a large footprint and you want the surface to remain untouched as it will prob end up scuffed trying to remove.

My X1C can’t read the localization marker on this plate. It’s really annoying. Why is the contrast so poor? I think they need to fix that. I always get build plate localization marker is not detected. It’s incredibly hard to remove the extrusion calibration lines from the plate. But, prints stick to it.

Can’t post my video here but here’s my reddit post about it

I won’t be doing flexis on it that’s for sure but I do love it

wow that is very sticky (too much even :D)

looks like mine has finally shipped, let’s see if it arrives in the next few days…

@jaayjeee Ahh! Your post is what inspired me to post over here. Wanted to spread some new plate love around on the forums here too.

I’m mildly surprised that people have issues with having to select the old cool plate, or having issues with the printers reading the tag on the plate.

I have a X1C. I updated my Bambu Studio to the latest version. I didn’t have to update the firmware on my X1C at all. It was within Bambu Studio though, and the plate was there, selected it, printed without issue. It didn’t have any troubles identifying the plate for me.

Yeah I could see this being difficult with certain print types. Anything flat and low with a lot of surface area!

As ScottK mentioned too, it can be difficult to remove the purge/calibration lines too. Might be worth checking this print out. Swappable Blade Calibration+Prime Strip Remover V2 by AeonJoey - MakerWorld

Same here.

PETG Basic didn’t stick to it at all, except for extrusion calibration lines. PLA worked, but PLA works just fine with the textured plate. Either I am missing something, or I got a bad plate.

I wonder if there’s outside light affecting it’s ability to read the plate. I’m not sure what your setup is, but it’s a thought. The markings don’t stand out and could easily get washed out if a light source is hitting it right.

A few rare times I’ve encountered that issue with other plates.

I went the Biqu route love them hopefully the sticky plate is just as good great new advancement in printing

Have you tried any other filament types with it? how did they adhere?

I have been holding out on this until I can see how it works with other filament types.

Tried 2 different smaller foot print PLA prints today and after about 10-20 layers both started to lift on the edges.

Only PLA Basic and PLA Matte, haven’t tried anything else yet sorry

@TJB I can’t say i’ve had any lifting issues at all (unless you count lifting the whole printer off the table)

I printed a corner piece from my Square Display and actually had a bit of trouble getting it off the plate, no curling whatsoever though. If anything actually a bit more squish than im used to but nothing that chamfers in the design wouldnt have fixed

Got mine today, spent the evening trying to find out why my first layer was shite all of a sudden and finally managed to print something on it  It doesn’t smell like the Biqu Cryogrip, there is no smell at all in fact. Getting closer it smells like sweet rubber, if that makes any sense. Anyways, it gives the first layer a nice matte/satin-y finish, bit more matte than a smooth PEI i’d say, though the z-offset is a tad low for my tastes. I will try the cold plate trick tommorrow and see if it’s any better before i go change stuff in the g-code.

After a few 1 layer squares printed, the cold plate works best.

I kept getting the same, that the plate was not detected - I logged a ticket with support.

Their response :

“This is a firmware bug, and we are working on a fix. If you are experiencing this error, we recommend temporarily disabling the build plate detection feature”

Nothing else yet…

Here’s my experience so far:

  1. You need to wash this plate with soap and water BEFORE using it, period. I bought 4 for my 2 X1C’s, I tried one washed, and one unwashed. the unwashed factory fresh one didn’t stick. Clinched what I already knew - wash it with dishwashing soap and water, both sides really well before using.
  2. I’m loving it, especially the texture.
  3. I am getting slight under extrusion I’m not super jazzed about, I think this will require some tempurature tweaking, but I’m using all Bambu Lab filaments, especially Silk and PLA Metal filaments are getting under-extrusion. it’s slight, but I hate seeing the gaps and layer lines on a bottom. Otherwise it’s great.
  4. Both of my X1C’s (one is about 9 months old, the other a few weeks old) have trouble reading the Aruco QR code, but they do sometimes, about 50% of the time I get the error.
  5. My Calibration Strip Remover tool works better on this plate than almost any other Bambu Lab plate, I’m not joking and I’m not plugging, my two other scrapers (metal and printed) kept shredding the calibration+prime strip combo, but this one takes it off cleanly without scratching the plate or leaving excess: Swappable Blade Calibration+Prime Strip Remover V2 by AeonJoey - MakerWorld
