I think I'm done with Maker World

Well, if adding a big picture in the model description with “Sponsored by pcbway” is allowed, then i think that a simple “buy me a coffee” is not that bad.

January is a new year and if things go totally west, then by bye makerworld for me since i got enough out of it already and won’t be “begging” for rewards.
I prefer to keep my dignity instead :upside_down_face:

Seriously? I haven’t seen that.

That wouldn’t be allowed in my book.

We don’t really know what’s happening until the hammer actually comes down. I genuinely hope it doesn’t go that way because none of us should face penalties for using methods that simply support our design efforts.

@Square3D is probably right that @David80 was reported by another user in this case. Initially, I was going to ignore this post and assume the worst about David, but @PrinterMcGee’s message about the challenges David has been facing changed my mind and made me feel compelled to speak up.

I really enjoy being part of this community, and I’d hate to see it take a turn for the worse. I hope there’s a way to implement new rules more thoughtfully because right now, it feels like the approach is to swing a hammer indiscriminately. Even if the hammer only falls when a user reports another, that still feels like a dystopian nightmare to me. Instead of fostering a community where people help each other, it could turn into one where the rules are weaponized against others. No thanks.

Trust me @JJTechPrints that this was discussed way too many times before. And i agree that makerworld is “turning” the rules so they can cut on people’s profits (if we may call it that). Those discussions even mentioned several creators that were, and still are, constantly breaking rule after rule and yet, they are still here and profiting like crazy.

For me it’s this way: if things go west, then i’ll go east. There are plenty of options, especially for community based models. Sure, rewards are nice but i can’t trust a platform that “does this” and later says “i have not done that” and this is the core principle of a platform.

Again, i mean no harm to anyone and i said to myself that i would not talk about it anymore but hey, sometimes we gotta say what we gotta say right?

Have a wonderful and merry Christmas, those are me and my familly wishes

@Square3D I apologize for snapping at you in my earlier post. We’re all in this together.

No harm done. I also misunderstood and thought you were trying to say something to me directly and later on, after i edited my own post, i got your idea.

Don’t worry. Today is a write and forget day. It’s the night where we all eat and drink and forget about makerworld for a few days

Have a great night

ive said it before and oothers did as well… do not join the exclusive program and just upload on every other websites possible. I make good money still with them all on every website compared to just one website. Also some people dont have a bambu lab and dont care about going on just 1 website that is why there are websites such as stlfinder

Oh BTW Makerworld is still in beta… why ? well its easy they can always the website is not fully done therefore we are still adjusting over and over to make it fair for everyone and change the rules again and again so that you can just go back on your 200 models and remove the links or the stuff they decided to add as a rule so that you can be worthy to everyone :stuck_out_tongue:

Not participating in the exclusive program and hosting models on all of the other sites sounds like a solid plan.

However, there’s an issue with models already in the exclusive program: how do we switch them to regular models? Currently, it’s not possible to do this directly. The only option is for a designer to delete the existing model and re-upload it as a new one.

While I don’t mind the tedious process, I’m concerned this could raise red flags with MW and potentially be used as justification to ban an account.

you put it private and then leave it the for 90days i guess or reupload it as the og is private… only way i found … meaby they changed their software so it deducts points still but didnt for me when they first came up with these rules removing my models 2d i did take them private the next day as no rules where saying i couldnt do so ? as well as id be glad to remove them and put them back without the exclusive models option there is no way i could do it… and they are pretty slow on replies so why bother ?

Hrm, not giving a user a way to remove their model from the exclusive program seems broken. Good workaround with taking the model private though.

It can be removed after 90 days.

Not great.

It’s worse when you remember they changed the rules a couple of days in and said we couldn’t remove the offending ones until they kicked them out and removed 125% of the points.

January 15th should be the first day one could remove themselves from the program if they entered into on the first day. Will be interesting to see if that can actually happen.

buy me a coffee or patreon links are really not the same as an affiliate link, buy me a coffee is basically a tip and patreon is for commercial licensing (not hosting models that are on makerworld · at least for the vast majority)

bambu even allows to add on the profile with the nice icons:

if they would ever to change that, they would loose a lot of designers, myself included

I wrote MW a message and they said that they would refund me the regular points. We will see what happens.

Sometimes I feel like I‘m doing something wrong, especially in this forum here. The only thing is that i like Fusion and have fun to design stuff. I met some really nice people on MW and with some i have contact on a daily base. But sometimes it feels like I get hunted for every little mistake i make, that takes all the fun out of it.

Merry Christmas to all.

Dont worry, i feel like i done something wrong nonstop.
It’s not just you. I’m sure you’ll get over it , as it is just a feeling, not so much a real thing but a feeling.
I stress a ton over nonsense, i try not to, but end of the day it still same no matter if it felt like ■■■■ earlier, or get same ■■■■ tomorrow, keep on at it.
Trust yourself and don’t put yourself out on what you belive in.
System is bit so so, its not you.

They should Grandfather designs into their changing guidelines. Why should there be any penalization for past actions?

I feel like adding my experience might be useful here; Have a few designs, all of which are exclusive since I only use Bambu printers and none of the other sites have rewards I care about. I’ve had no issues with MakerWorld and redeeming points until this recent time I tried to redeem a gift card, to which after a LENGTHY review period, I was met with almost all of my print profiles being removed due to lack of a printed photo (which was included in all model pages and only one profile was included for each model) and I lost a decent chunk of points.

While I agree with these checks being done, and swiftly corrected my print profiles, this rubbed me the wrong way in many regards:

  1. No contact was attempted prior to removal. Not an email, system message, or app notification. Given even 12 hours I would have been happy to make the corrections. Instead MakerWorld thinks its better to remove and delete on the first offense - certainly not ideal
  2. On top of the previous point, there is no way to make corrections to removed profiles, so all the ratings received would be removed.
  3. The fact that I (and so many others it seems) got my profiles removed IN RESPONSE to a points redemption sort of proves that MakerWorld admins are only checking models/profiles when it effects their bottom line, and NOT when it contributes to users and downloads on their site
  4. I no longer receive points for uploading files - all my points are received from downloads, ratings, and boosts. Taking away points that clearly show the quality of the model/profile felt unrelated to their issue with my profiles
  5. ALL of my models are exclusive. MakerWorld is the only place my designs are hosted. This is NOT a good look to your customers that are dedicated their time and efforts to you

As a result of those grievances, I appealed ALL of my profiles (which was rather childish but fire with fire is the saying) and submitted a ticket noting all of those points above. MakerWorld, rather promptly, restored my points and profiles and gave me the time to adjust them, although they did note this is a one time ‘fix’

Overall, pretty disappointed with how they are handling this but wanted to share what has worked for me to get my points back - as folks uploading exclusive designs deserve to be treated better than copyright infringers and AI shillers. Maybe someday? Hopefully?

You had all the time in the world to read the rules and apply them. Why wait for someone to grab your attention to correct your mistakes?

As someone who is browsing models and find so many without a picture, a fake one or an AI generated one, I’m upset that they don’t ban these people for a longer period of time. They waste my time and money and for others as well. These are not mistakes.

And the guy above who has the gut to complain about 1-3 stars but he doesn’t have the time to print and test his own models. Wow. I guess I was too nice of a person that I gave 4 stars to prints than clearly haven’t been tested and I had to fix them myself in Blender. The greed is strong, yet blame it on MakerWorld. I guess a low rating is the only way to grab someone’s attention.

If he gets commissioned to design a model and sends it out for the customer to print, and it comes out successful - why shouldn’t he be able to use that picture instead of spending his own filament needlessly?
