you should get a punishment if you copy a model like banned for a week or have all your points taken away. yesterday i reported someone who copyed a lot of models and 10 seconds later they were back. has anyone else seen that
Do you mean models that are uploaded unaltered? Or do you mean if someone copies / recreates the idea of some else but does not use the STL file of that person?
bolth if someone uses that same models as there own or posts it on another platform this model thing has gotten out of hand
You’re not talking about remixes, right?
For straight copies and reuploads, I thing it’s a good idea especially if the uploader repeats this behaviour multiple times.
But maybe bbl is already appling those kind of sanctions. At least, I know they are applying sanctions on the reward points
I’ve done several reports of stolen models. For example, original: https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/art/articulated-worm-cartoonic-studio
Stolen version: Worm Fidget Toy by wikiwada - MakerWorld.
Nothing has happened and it’s been months. Reported again today, nothing yet.
Having reported well over a thousand models for breaches, I can tell you these things for certain…
- If a model is new, it will likely be pulled down.
- If a model is old, yet has barely any downloads, it will likely be pulled down.
- If a model has more than a handful of downloads, they will ignore you and it stays up.
It doesn’t matter how blatant the infringement is, mild popularity is like Kevlar.
If someone has ripped off your never-been-before model, then yes, that should get some punishment.
If the model is a genuine remix and the original model’s licence allows remixes, that should be allowed.
If it is similar to your design, but, you have used some artwork or design that wasn’t yours or not original to you, that is safe. An example: a Disney coaster or keyring you created, anyone else can make a Disney coaster or keyring, before, at the same time or after you did, even with the same dimensions and character.
one more think you should get somthing if you report alot of models
That has been discussed before but that would only lead to scammers and cheats making more accounts to self report.
oh i did not think about that
No one should be rewarded for performing community service.
Certainly not me. Not the reason I do it.
makes sense but yeah ok yeah that makes sense
well it is a good opinion and it is welcome here thanks for sharing your opinion
I’m not 100% sure I understand this correctly, but if you mean “I can do whatever I want with your model because Marvel owns the rights to Wolverine, not you.” then I strongly disagree. Art is art, owned by the artist regardless of IP and not even the IP holder can use my work.
If I draw a picture of Wolverine and Marvel turns around and prints that image in the next issue of Wolverine without my permission, Marvel getting sued.
Everyone should respect the license a model is uploaded under.
And if that’s not what you meant, then my apologies for misunderstanding.
I absolutely retain rights on the models I’ve created based on others IP as proven by me having unauthorized remixes/re-uploads of my models removed from this repository and others on a regular basis.
Everyone should respect the license a model is uploaded under.
That is just repositories being too lazy to deal with this â– â– â– â– .
The issue isn’t simply black and white. There are nuanced discussions on this topic. Fan art isn’t inherently permitted, particularly if the original creator doesn’t benefit financially. Are you benefiting from it through the rewards program? I believe you are. But no plaintiff, no judge.
None of this gives you the right to re-upload/remix/sell/whatever you want without the model creators permission.
I have created a few ant bait traps from scratch and many have taken my design and redrew them with minor changes. They have not posted as remixes but should at least acknowledge that they were inspired by another model rather than representing as original. In one case I commented on the person’s design that it is similar to mine and he deleted the posting and reposted it. Guess it is to be expected.
Yes I agree, because it a shame that people copy your model and they never get punish, why not just make some kind of association when we keep reporting these copy cat?
The industry shows little interest in combating clones because there’s no financial incentive to do so. When neither profit nor loss is at stake, no action is taken. Moreover, while mechanisms to protect intellectual property (IP) are in place, enforcing these rights in the 3D printing environment is prohibitively expensive.
