I’m pretty new here and I’m discovering all what MakerWorld is offering (and I’m loving it)
I like creating model that are parameterized because I never can decide for myself and I’d like the models I create to fit the user’s needs (which are probably different than mine.
I do not expect people to download the standard profiles of my models because they should parameterize the models to their needs.
The question I have is the following: when a user creates a parameterised version of a model and downloads the result file, does it count as a download for the model?
for the first question is a simple yes, for the second one, it depends how the user download the file.
If the user donwload the stl, it will not count, if it donwload the 3mf, it will.
So, thanks to @Square3D who did the investigation, it appears that models that were printed from the customization tool are not counted.
I don’t think I’m the only one creating parameterized models and, to bring the option to parameterize instead of resize is, IMHO, a much more challenging but much better approach to offer models.
For instance, I offer the possibility to print lamps and the user can decide on the height and diameter of the base but also of the lampshade, everything is adapted automatically. I see that it allows a very high range of customisation that you would not get with a simple resize.
@BambuLab : Is it something you are aware of? Maybe I am doing something wrong on my models (like using fusion 360 instead of openscad)? Is there anything I can do about it?
According to my testing, as i am doing in this other topic, we are only speaking of their own 3mf files. The stl file only counts as a download and not as a print, of course. The 3mf file, however, should count the download (1x points) and the successful print (2x downloads). In this case, customizing the file and downloading the 3mf works but printing it does not count as a successful print.
Makers are in the loss here and users who print it also because they can’t rate it and won’t get any boost tokens relative to those prints.
I appreciate the post, this completely explain my confusion on why some of my prints never showed up to rate and some did, wven though they completed successfully. I did not realize makers got credit for prints like that, so also helpful since I’m only a few months into printing and use my slicer on comouter and Handy app. I sometimes see print and sometimes send to printer, it never even occurred to me those where different since I am always just printing immediately.
