I’m trying to print this controller stand for my Xbox Series X controller (Controller Stand - Core - Swappable Deco Sleeves by Foxwood - MakerWorld) but when printing the black core (Elegoo black PLA), I’m getting this heavy wavy pattern on it, no matter in what direction I print it. I’m afraid this might be a bad case of VFA on my brand new X1C. I’ve retightened the belts as per the instructions but it still appears. I’ve tried different speeds and it didn’t change. What’s strange is that when I print the green sleeve (Bambu PLA basic), it doesn’t seem to appear as prominently.
You’d have to pull off the belts and spin each one by hand to see… huge PITA. Might consider power off and just running the printhead around manually to see if you can feel a “rough spot” or maybe get lucky and knock whatever it is loose.
Great … I should not have to do this with a brand new printer. I’ll try moving the head around as you suggested. In the meantile I have also contacted support in parallel.
Unfortunately this was why I returned my 4 day old X1C and why I haven’t bought a replacement. For some reason most people don’t seem to see them or don’t see them as a problem, for £1,100 I certainly did. BL also seem to see this as acceptable and are not able to fix it. The weird part though is some are better than others.
One fudge is to run a VFA tower to see where it’s worse and avoid those speeds. As you’ll see from mine, I didn’t bother doing this as it was quite bad at a lot of the speeds.
Disappointing as I really liked the machine and I’ve struggled to find a suitable alternative. If I could guarantee I’d receive a good one, I’d buy another.
You could raise a ticket, they’ll give you some files to run which helps them to identify any problems (they worked out mine had a faulty accelerometer to fix the ringing but not the vfa’s). Hopefully this will find something wrong and they’ll fix it for you.
Yes, I’ve read your topic before and intended to comment that I was exactly on the same boat … I also find it untolerable that a printer with such a high price tag might have such an issue (makes me think of banding on Oled screens) and I hope support will do something, although they have not responded ATM. I don’t have high hopes for a refund since the 14 days have gone by (I had it from day 1 but didn’t know back then).
What is infuriating is that I asked my mother, who has an A1, to print the part and it came out perfect. I should have kept my money and gone for the lower-priced model.
It is frustrating as, as you said, when it prints well, the quality is great. No layer lines. Well, now layer lines are replaced with vertical lines …!
Hopefully they respond soon and have a fix for you. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you.
I also thought about an A1 when I bought the carbon, so it’s nice to hear that’s been okay. I think the belts on the A1 don’t have teeth all the way round, so maybe that helps. Tempted again, but I’m trying to stay away from another bed slinger.
Yes, maybe the A1 has other issues, I don’t know, but it’s really a shame the the pricier model is more flawed on certain aspects …
They have responded today but are instructing me to clean the rods, as per the usual procedure. I don’t believe it will change anything but I will follow suit, to rule that out. They also asked me to send the 3MF file I was trying to print, with the settings I used.
Honestly, none of these problems are that big of a deal. They will walk you through what to check and get you back to spec. If you prefer, I’m sure they have the option to send it in for repair, but that will take forever, comparatively. The good thing is, these machines are fairly simple mechanically.
Like the others have said, there is something wrong in the movements and now the chase is on to find the hitch. Like you mentioned, the rods are likely not it, but they always start off with the easiest possible fix and work their way down the list. But be sure to do those easy jobs thoroughly, becasue it would be annoying to skip something now and 5 steps down the line realize there is debris on the rod or something.
Check the following for any type of binding
Rods
Bearings
Belts
And doublecheck the resetting of the belt tension stayed as expected. Maybe the tensioners are not working correctly.
Thanks. I do hope it is fixable, as it is preventing me from fully enjoying the machine right now.
You’re right, it is better to do the basic maintenance for a start, and not have it come back later down the line. If all else fails, I hope they’ll let me send it back for repair. Long road ahead …!
