Is the AMS HT actually effective at venting moisture?

I got to looking at my HT the other day and noticed something. The pictures on the sales page for the HT implies that the air intake is on the back and the exhaust vent is on the bottom. Per my measurements there is only 1.6mm between the bottom of the unit and the surface that it is sitting on. This has to be creating significant back pressure for the fan that is trying to force the moist air out of the vent. I’m actually considering drilling a hole in the shelf immediately below the vent, at the very least taller rubber feet might be a good idea. What do you think?

I found some stick-on rubber feet in my stocks, and now the bottom of the HT is 10mm above the surface of the shelf. I’d think that would be much better for it to breathe, wouldn’t you?

I have noticed that if I lift the lid after drying for about two hours that I feel a rush of warm moist air. When I then close the lid the humidity drops a few percentage points.

But surely that can’t have been what the inventor intended. :thinking:

I have an AMS 2 Pro and an AMS HT. While the humidity while drying drops quite significantly on the AMS 2 Pro (23% at the beginning, to 8% at the end of drying cycle, then stays there days @ 10-12%), I don’t see that happening on my AMS HT…

It also starts at 23% but then at the end of the cycle it hardly goes below 18%. And after drying - without opening the lid - it jumps back to approx. 20%… and stays at that level. Not sure if this is normal?

What are your numbers for the AMS HT?

EDIT: Mhhh, perhaps my filament is completely wet. Looking at the picture again, in the first cycle it jumps back to 23%, in the second to 21%, so at least some improvement :wink:

how long was your drying cycle in the AMS HT?

First one approx 4 h. @ 55 °C

Second one 12 h @ 55 °C

I have loaded a PLA Silk+ Gold filament (Christmas… :wink: )

EDIT: I now run another round, but now tilted the AMS HT at an angle, so air could more easily escape and air-in has more space.

sounds great, right and as a good approach. But anyways, the AMS HT system has been designed and build aspecially for this occasion, so why does an end user now have the need to manipulate the system/machine, so that it is working as it is designed for. I’m really corious what the opinion from Bambu Lab is in this case. It is really a pitty if you pay a good money and …

Anyways, keep me/us posted if the new cycle and the adaption was succesfull.

I don’t think that a user of anything should accept that how it was designed was perfect and is the final word. As makers, that’s not what we do, is it? Anyway, while Bambu designs and hardware are good, they are hardly infallable…remember the A1 bed cable fiasco?

I think the location of the exhaust vent on the HT (and the AMS2 Pro as well, that vent is in the same location) is sub-optimal. I don’t have data in the form of charts and graphs to prove it but do have enough hardware experience to know that nearly blocking an air vent is not all that good of an idea. Most of my AMS sit on wire shelves so it isn’t an issue for those, but the two for the A1 are on a solid shelf so I’ve taken steps to try to ameliorate the situation. In the long term will it make any difference? I don’t know.

The rubber seal wasn’t sitting correctly on my AMS 2 pro causing similar results. My HT behaves like the post describes it. Mainly use them (AMS HT A and AMS HT B) to dry my filaments ahead of putting them to the one of the two AMS 2 pro. Not ideal… bla bla

OK, as an update: tilting the device did not improve the situation.

I now removed the filament and did a 12 h run without any spool inside and pumped it to max 85 °C. This brought me to a 12 % humidity and it kept stable @14 % after the drying process.

Not sure, if there was moisture inside the device somehow during shipping. I will now try again with Silk+ PLA and more human 55 °C drying temperature and see if I’m now staying at this humidity level.

As a side note: every cycle I did, did improve the minimum humidity I reached - perhaps the device just needs a few cycles to “burn-in”?

Did you put desiccant in? There isn’t room for much but I use a little drybox that goes under the rear roller and a spool weight canister.

Yes, I crammed the included desiccant bag in there.

Remember the writing on the Bambu spools says “Temperature Resistance < 70°C” !
I don’t know how heat-resistant other brand spools are, or if cardboard ones use glue, but I think heating any spool for longer periods over 60°C is a bad idea.
