Looks like a clever solution! As the officially bambulab recommended stock solution, I’m hoping the AMS HT does the business. I mean, a walled garden ecosystem should be self-consistent…one would hope. Truth to tell, I’m looking forward to the power windows. A nice convenience to improve overall user experience.
For the AMS 2 Pro, I’m using the inch thick packing foam that came with the H2D acessories to provide insulation. Functional, but it bestows an unfortunate trash look. on an otherwise nice industrial design. Is it overkill? I’m thinking the lid will be conducting 65C heat, or at least some portion thereof, into the AMS 2 Pro. Depending on ambient conditions, like a sufficienty hot garage, maybe not too hard to imagine? I was concerned that it might amount to too much for a low temperature filament sitting in the AMS 2 Pro to withstand during a lengthy PPS-CF print. The foam was free insurance. Anyway, maybe a topic for some other thread. Anyone interested? Should I start one? Or I could simply use a temperature probe and do the experiment… Then I would know for sure.
Let’s be clear: they are not worth the price they cost, but they do fulfill the need for drying and keeping filament dry during printing.
That said, they are unnecessarily overpriced. I currently own three AMS2 Pro units, four AMS HT, and two AMS units (the ones without active heating), and I plan to upgrade my older AMS units to AMS2 Pro as soon as possible, as well as add a fourth AMS2 Pro to my H2D.
It would offer much better value if the system could activate heating to maintain a specific humidity level—similar to what my AIBOS dryer does. That should be a relatively simple firmware update and shouldn’t interfere with the printing process.
Is there an upgrade path to do that , or by “upgrade” do you mean “replace with”? I too have an older AMS, and I like the AMS 2 Pro better. Who doesn’t? Providing an upgrade kit would be a nice gester, similar in spirit to what Prusa does.
I’m aware of this:
but it appears to be only good for connecting together multiple ams 2 pro’s for use by the legacy printers.
No, it’s more of a replacement than an upgrade.
Sure, an upgrade kit to turn the original AMS into a full AMS2 Pro would be nice—but I imagine most of the old components would have to be discarded and replaced with new ones. So instead, I’ll just go with a brand-new AMS2 Pro.
I’ve read a bunch of people postt positively about the ability to auto-swap from one spool to another when the first spool runs empty. Those folks have had no issues with tape.
For anyone interested, the AMS HT is now back in stock. My order is listed as “fulfilled” but as yet doesn’t have any tracking info. To me “fulfilled” means received, but apparently to Bambulab “fulfilled” means shipped.
Its really nice having the ht’s for rolls that get swapped in and out often. vs opening a 4 roll ams constantly and allowing new moist air in. As I have mine set up now, I barely even need to open a ams pro
