since the PETG HF is no longer being sold i bought some rolls of PETG Basic but ever since i got the rolls, the prints have not been in my favour, strange small missprints in the middle of bigger prints, and specifically the red PETG Basic stuck so strong to my Textured PEI Plate that i had to submerge the entire build plate in Hot water and spend 10 minutes getting the fillament off
does anyone else have experience with the new Fillament?
I’ve done a few prints with it. Outstanding results. No errors or issues to report.
Much like the PETG CF, it welds to the build plates, textured and smooth even more so.
I have left mine to stand for far longer than other filaments.
It lifts some of the gold of the textured plate.
What does the new PETG look like? Does it have the same glossy finish as traditional PETG?
Left for 12 hours.
I had to use the blade, I spent a few minutes trying to prize it up without it breaking, I failed.
The area of failure was the 0.2mm section of my own filament swatch design.
I have two more printed, and I am going to leave them 24 hours, I have also moved them to the front of the build plate in case it is easier to level them up without damage.
Third time lucky?
The white and black versions did come up without damage, they took a lot of effort.
so you are having a issue that i have been dealing with aswell, if you have too thin of a layer it sticks too well and breaks, when enough layers are stacked on top then it does not happen
if i may ask, what things have you printed so far?
Malc, did you use any liquid glue to put a cap on the force needed to separate the print from the plate? I use liquid glue routinely on textured PEI to both keep things stuck down and make separation easier.
Get a Frostbite plate and you wont have any problems with PETG.

I’m a retired guy that enjoys some out of the box stuff. So my projects are a bit different from what other 64 year old gents might print.
In the past week, I’ve printed (only PETG listed here) a Squidward character, a three level spice rack, four three tier shelves for my filament samples, filament samples for the PETG, that stupid case for the FTS that I won’t be using, several sets of those weird tube things for the AMSs that come with the FTS (won’t be using), two fidget toys, an NES controller wall art, a Nintendo sign, a Switch 2 stand cover, and quite a few other projects.
Those were printed with the PETG. And all turned out phenomenally well. Zero stringing, sticking, or layer issues. Just great.
My filament inventory is extensive. I keep several spools of each color and type that BL offers (PLA, PETG). I also have most of what two other manufacturers offer. I do this so I’m never waiting for a specific shade of color for whatever I might want to take on. I run them through three different BL printers - H2D, H2C, and an incredible A1Mini.
I refuse to use glue for any purpose other than fusing one thing to another.
The idea of putting glue on a build plate is an anathema to me. I didn’t buy a build plate and print to use something else to get it to stick sufficiently during printing or to aid its removal.
That is the job of heat (or its absence), and the design of the build plate that they brag it actually does.
We should have been long past the days if taking things down and the other archaic requirements prior to the improvements in build plate design.
PETG Basic and PETG CF are the only two that misbehave. PETG HF was a little tricky, but it came off and never had the issue shown in the photo.
If I want to be sticky I reserve that for the bedroom like everyone else, consuming a big jam donut before nap time or just after waking.
Can try turning down bed temperature if it is sticking and you do not want to use a release agent.
I agree with whoever said use the biqu frostbite build plates for PETG. I switched as soon as they released as I prefer the less textured finish. I have not had trouble with PETG sticking too much.
edit Correction I use Glacier, the less textured one. Frostbite is too rough and I do not like that texture.
Me either but advertising claims and manufacturer hype are realities in this world. My textured PEI worked great for a while then fine details stopped sticking until I used glue. It was a choice of buy more build plates or modify my procedure so I chose the cheaper option.
But stuff sticking so hard it breaks or pulls the surface off the plate is probably the new formulation. Glue would put an upper limit on that force and precent damage to the plate and part.
It’s just a tool in the toolbox.
A 24 hour window did allow me to remove the filament swatches without damage.
Third time a charm.
I did also move the swatches to the front of the build plate. I am hopeful that is a coincidence.
so PETG Basic does seem to be not so forgiving on the Textured plate, even though it says you dont need to use glue on the plate, if the layer is too thin, glue may be required after all, its a fillament that one needs to get used to for sure, cause it is harder to print with then PETG HF
What printer are you using? Is this the newer Bambu Lab PETG Basic replacing PETG HF?
im using the P2S and yes PETG HF is being replaced by PETG Basic
May I ask what you use for liquid glue? I use gorilla glue purple paste and it seems too messy
I’ve only used the Bambu liquid glue in their applicator bottle and the Bambu glue sticks. I got a tube of the liquid glue when I bought my printer as I had never used it before but many were saying it was useful. When my textured PEI got too iffy on holding things down, the liquid glue made the plate useable again. It just about disappears as the build plate heats up and I don’t see added textures in print surfaces from it.
On how messy, the liquid glue has no color and just washes away with warm water. It really cleans up super easy.
There’s probably generics out there. I don’t think there is anything special about it but it’s just been convenient for me to add it in when buying filament.
