Left spool not loaded?

Hi I’m new. Sorry if it seems like I’m hijacking this thread, but I can’t find where I can start a new post. Then, I read something online which says this forum won’t allow me to create new threads until I’ve replied to a couple of existing ones first. This is the closest thread that I can find. If I should be posting elsewhere, please send me instructions, and I’ll get off this thread.

I’m new to Bambu, but not to 3D printing. I also have a Lulzbot Taz Sidekick 747. Was looking to upgrade and just received my H2D AMS Combo. The AMS feeds into the right extruder while the external spool feeds into the left extruder. I’ve been able to print with the AMS/right extruder fine with a couple of first prints, including having it switch between filaments within the AMS unit.

Now I’m trying to use the external spool that feeds into the left extruder. I go through the panel to do a load where it asks me to manually push the filament in as far as it will go. I can see the filament pass through the tube down to the extruder. Then I see as the left extruder does a purge successfully. However, whenever I go to do a print and specify the left extruder, it keeps complaining that the external spool has not been loaded. Any suggestions?

You should see a “New Topic” button.

Regarding your loading issue. In Bambu Studio, next to the small icon of a AMS is a single spool icon, click on that icon and edit the filament information.

I’m not getting a “New Topic” button. I did a screen grab but it didn’t like me inserting the grab, and I don’t see an icon for inserting graphics. How did you do yours?

I did select that external spool icon and did a configure or edit (I forget which) and selected Vendor as Generic and type as PLA. I have a lot of spools from the Lulzbot plus the Generic PLAs worked in the AMS unit.

Because you were still a “New user”. The forum Read Me has all of the information regarding this. You do not have to reply to threads to up your trust level, you need to read them.

I finally figured it out. When I do the filament load with the external spool, I select the filament icon in the panel. There, the external spool is already linked to the left extruder. Not sure if that’s the default or if I did something that linked them together. I then go through all the load filament steps to purge the filament successfully and get it ready in the left extruder.

The problem comes when I try a print from the panel and select the external spool. After having done the filament load, I assumed the print with the external spool would be to the left extruder as well. Late in the night after trying a number of things, I finally noticed as I’m going through the panel print menu that the small line above the external spool says it’s going out the right extruder. Not sure why the print menu sees the external spool differently than the filament load. I didn’t see a way to change this from the panel print menu.

But, I went to the Bambu Handy app and there, I was able to select custom setup and link the external spool to the left extruder then send it to the printer. This finally got the left extruder working!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
This H2D printer is new to me, and I am new to 3D printing.
My H2D did one print fine using both the left extruder (external) and the right extruder (AMS). With different filaments in the same model.
After that one print, I have run into the exact same problem as you, where the left extruder has just loaded the filament correctly, purged the old filament, and is good to go; and then when I send a print file it asks me to load the filament for the left extruder again, when it is already loaded with the correct filament etc.
So, I am going to use your work around trick. And if it works for me, I will send your problem and solution over to BAMBU tech support.
Thanks again! You rock for coming back and writing up the solution to this problem which many others (including myself) are sure to have in the future.

Hi,

Can you explain how you did the custom setup in the Handy app?

You’re a saint. I was losing my mind working in the screen on my x2d and finally it clicked after reading your comment!

When you’re choosing the filament there is a Left nozzle and a right nozzle toggle. I never noticed it until I got to this thread for this frustrating issue.
