Probably best to create a new issue on the BambuStudio github
Its now late September and this is still happening v2.2.2.56.
Accordign to support this is the way the software is supposed to work.
Dear Bambu user,
Thank you for your inquiry!
This phenomenon is not a bug; rather, it is intended to ensure cutting efficiency. During the processing of boolean operations/cutting, the software does not fully support the transfer of materials or textures, resulting in all colors being set to the default base color.
You can reapply colors after the cutting is complete, and using block coloring will be quite convenient. Alternatively, you can pre-split the model before exporting.

Itâs not a bug -Itâs a feature! Using a simple mesh operation like a boolean destroys your work. This is ridiculous and easily solved with transferring or reprojecting the previous colors.
Any way you might be able to give a little more explanation, please? I have the pre-patined part Iâm trying to cut. I clicked move like you said and put it under the build plate. You said âslicingâ but I think you mean to perform the cut. So, I go to the cut tool, have Objects A/B selected, tried both keep orientation and place on cut and every time I perform the cut, both parts appear back on the plate but I still lose the color painting I did. Would you please elaborate on what the actual steps are so when I cut, both parts appear back on the plate WITH the parts still having color? PLEASE! Thank you!
By slice, you should click the button that says slice plate.
Yep. Thatâs exactly what I did the first time before replying to your comment and the program crashedâŚwhich is why I assumed maybe I was missing something. Iâll try it again and hope it doesnât crash again. Thanks.
âAn error occurred. System memory may not be enough or it may be a program bug.â Thatâs the message Iâm getting. Tried it again.
Thanks to SelimTheOne for a reasonable work around. In my case, I had a model that was created via AI from a picture. As many of you know, this often generates models that are less than desirable with regard to placing the model on the build plate FLAT. Pushing the model slightly below the build plate and then just slicing it there, is a reasonable solution to the particular issue I previously described. In my case, it provided some additional build plate support that helped the overall printing of the goofy model I was trying to print!
Steps to perform the âfixâ:
Select your model and then activate (click) the âmoveâ function. Slide the model slightly below the print plate. SLICE IT.
Bambu Studio doesnât know the difference and it will slice it no problem, leaving you with a flat surface from which to print the model if the issue youâre attempting to solve is similar to what I was trying to solve.
The unfortunate reality is, we donât go searching for a solution to this issue until AFTER weâve spent considerable time painting a model for all our desire colors. If youâre trying to split up a print for another purpose⌠Well, youâre screwed. You get to paint it all over again.
Thank u for sharing this ur a real one. Saved me a big headache
Just wanted to report this is still an issue in 2026
GREAT SOLUTION FOUND!!
Thank you to the hard work of TaejooUm there is a tool which allows Us to split painted models which are one piece. I can confirm this works as the tool is browser based.
i canât believe this hasnt been implemented into BambuSlicer but im sure it will be soon enough.. hope they give credit where credit is due.
Be sure to send a tip to him as well. Anything helps!
Check out the tool, youâll have to type it in directly since i canât share a link in the reply
