My stats from yesterday shows that numer of prints by day is higher than number of downloads. Hard to believe that anyone can still think that all downloads from logged users are registered. RIP makerworld.
In my opinion there is no hard rules which download is counted and which is not, bambu used AI that decides, so no one actually knows.
Could you provide some data? I’m curious about the magnitude of the difference. It would make sense for there to be more prints than downloads if the end of the printing process isn’t on the same day as the download.
Check out the attached picture, it shows a profile (Print magnet in place) to a model of mine. That profile has zero downloads but one print and one rating. Since rating should only be possible once downloaded (+1 print) and successfully printing it (+2 prints), it should read more than zero downloads?
The single download registered for the model download count is related to the Glue in place print profile. → One download is missing, no matter what.
This issue has been previously addressed and received an official response from Makerworld. It occurs when initiating a print via the smartphone app, which seems plausible and acceptable in my opinion as there is no actual download in that case.
The rating mechanism solely necessitates an attempted print, not a download.
Here is the thread including the official statement:
My response to AMT_MW likely applies to you too. Printing via the Smartphone App doesn’t trigger a download; there’s no actual download occurring. Undoubtedly, this could be frustrating for the creator. I’ve experienced it myself.
This explanation isn’t mine; it comes from the Makerworld team. Since similar questions have arisen before, and I’ve personally inquired with Makerworld about this very ‘issue,’ I figured sharing it could be helpful to others, especially considering the limited popularity of using the search function.
I’m eager to hear about any discrepancies between the explanation and the actual facts. It’s possible I’ve overlooked something, and I’m not one to blindly defend their PR rhetoric.
Somehow it’s strange. Anyone have any idea what’s happening in the system right now?
That there are fewer downloads was kind of known. Normally I have at least a few working models as far as downloads are concerned. Now I have looked at the last 5 days and see that the downloads of my models are going towards 0. Normally a few downloads are counted for each model, even if it is new. But now it’s 0. Other new models also count almost no downloads.
I think I then have an explanation for what is going on with my designs. The downloads were pushed (boosted) by printouts. A model with a few printouts but hardly any real downloads should therefore have generated a much higher download counter. If each print plate from one design then also counted as a separate print, the result was even more distorted. However, I would still need to know what the real downloads and prints looked like in the past. If the download figures from the past can no longer be recalculated, but the download figures have remained the same, then I have an extreme difference to the current figures. The stupid thing is that I wasn’t aware of this before, because I didn’t know how often someone had printed something and how many were actual, real downloads. If, on top of that, the downloads are not counted because there is an artificial counting block somewhere or external downloads from users who are not logged in are not counted either … then this explains the result all the more. This would also mean that many models were simply uploaded based on incorrect assumptions by the designers. In other words, models that not many people have actually downloaded. Instead, we have chased unnecessarily large quantities of filament through the printers.
But this also confirms my assumption when I sometimes asked myself: who needs so many useless models?
At least I now see my models (I only have a personal connection to them) with different eyes and probably set different priorities. One of these could be printing interesting models in larger sizes, which I rework using real craftsmanship (not computer-aided) to make them more attractive and offer them as unique pieces on other sales channels. Not just simple 3D printing.
Upload the same models to printables and/or thingiverse. If it gets much more downloads then bambu ai is lying to you about the real download counter pretty simple (spoiler alert … it does)
Maybe not. I had to use my boosts before they expired, so I boosted some prints I downloaded a while ago. Maybe somebody did the same to you. I am not disputing there is a download problem, many people are noticing it. I am just saying that a boost without a download is possible.
I tried one thing weeks ago by remodelling a figurine, then uploading it to Printables. Similar things happen there. At first the model is visible because it has been re-uploaded, there are … let’s say … 50 downloads … and then it’s as if the model is invisible.
I also have some models on Thingiverse. I only have 4 models there, two of them technical models (that was before Makerworld) but with hardly any downloads (which was to be expected, it’s actually a real niche model) and the other one is very simple but works great, but nobody is interested in it. But two other models on Thingiverse, which I also have on Makerworld, generate more downloads there (looking at the statistics only) than here. Makerworld for the one model, since October 2023: 20 downloads, 8 prints. Thingiverse in comparison, for the same model: 55 downloads.
Overall, the statistics on Thingiverse with 4 models look pretty much the same as those on Makerworld with 30 models (total number of views to downloads). The ratio of total number of downloads to total number of models is roughly identical on both platforms. However, I have three or four models on Thingiverse that have generated a lot of downloads. 2 or 3 models with higher Download Counts on MW but were not uploaded by me on Thingiverse.
Makerworld still has the group that prints directly via the smartphone app.
I will upload 2 more models from Makerworld to Thingiverse and Printables and see how they unfold there.
practically, downloads made by unregistered users or those who have not logged in are not counted? I wonder why not make registration mandatory to download at this point. on the question of maximum 10 downloads counted per day, I’m not very convinced. if you look at the files currently trending, some posted a few days ago have hundreds of downloads and prints.
The download limit is set at 5 downloads per user, not per model. This means that while a model might receive hundreds or even thousands of downloads in a day, if you, as a user, download more than 5 different models, any additional downloads won’t be counted.
