I reply to you: If the people can have access to your model without logging in or register, why even bother?
They download the files Makerworld don’t pay you.
Both the parts are happy, just the owner of the file is not
First of all, thank you for replying.
All this changes are shady.
Boosts to hand out difficult to get.
Outsider (not logged people) can download our files without even being registered (and do with them whatever they want).
I see which is the real meaning here (and I can understand that). You were paying too much and many not honest people were using this to their own advantage.
Why don’t you try instead to implement some kind of membership?
There is a big use of the word COMMUNITY that I read here from you and many users and artists through this forum.
I don’t see anything related to the Community in letting the people download without being registered and logged in.
Allowing downloads when not logged in was so BL could reduce the number of points given out to creators who are providing real value to BL & MW.
All the recent changes have been in the name of reducing the points given to the creators who add value.
Some have the side-effect of reducing a portion of those gaming the system, but, if that was the actual reason (which they said it was), the creators wouldn’t have been penalised.
The boost system is another fake benefit designed to reduce the points previously awarded for effort by the creators.
The excuse was “better distribution of points as only popular models are currently benefiting”. If BL stopped only promoting the same already successful creator all the time and promoted random, up and coming and interest designs - that playing field would have been levelled.
They also hide the rules for receiving boosts to give out, today’s clarification simply stated two rules whilst alluding to other rules not shared with us.
BL earns revenue because of MW, it gains printer sales due to the eco system. People buy the printers in part because of the amount of value MW brings with new users able to get started straight away printing even before they consider designing something.
Without the creators, they would have an empty website.
Points on MW are a cost paid for the sales generated.
It doesn’t matter if you don’t do it for the points, the points are the portion of the sales your efforts gained BL. You don’t have to redeem them.
I still demand honesty.
Could you just reply to one question: Why don’t you stop permitting the people not logged to download? Just make sure that people register and log in.
Registering with name, surname and some xtra data to make difficult the bots to use the system?
Honest people wont have problems with that.
Take some inspiration from Thangs 3d. Memberships for the designers that want to earn something and you keep a porcentage. Then also there will be all the free models, real community, etc…
I might mention that Printables and Thingiverse don’t require a user be logged in to download content. This practice is common place.
Yes, they don’t but their downloads count to be honest it is also a little bit wrong because you need likes to receive points. What I don’t understand is why to let unlogged people download stuff, they don’t give likes, ratings, absolutely nothing, and probably don’t even own anything from Bambulab because otherwise, they would like to get the free points and support the community so there is more stuff to print, its just complete nonsense. Also, I believe Bambulab must have noticed that not much stuff is uploaded at the moment and designers are quite waiting until they repair the system.
We will probably also upload our stuff to Printables meanwhile BCS response from BL is taking too long and it seems pretty careless.
Completely agree… Already started to upload at Thangs and yes, I know it is free and I don’t get much, blah blah blah. At least I know what I am getting into and don’t get stabbed in the back with secret changes and lack of communication.
I don’t believe this to be entirely true. Yes it would be different but I don’t believe it would be empty. It’s easy to forget that there is a large influx of essentially captive new Bambu printer owners that are funneled to the site every day. Many of these people are brand new to 3d printing and haven’t been exposed to other model repositories. This is the advantage of the “walled garden” approach.
I don’t get how allowing downloads without even a login can provide any kind of “safety” for the people who upload their models here on MW.
Why copy those legacy site like thingiverse and printables to allow downloads from users without an account? Let’s not make excuses for MW for free now, too. I think MW should be an industry leader and stop doing/copying the things other lesser sites are doing.
I have a feeling it might have something to do with some type of licencing.
I’m not, but the facts from all side should be brought to the table.
That’s not what was said.
The safety aspect is that bots can’t be used to generate points.
I don’t think anyone is asking for the downloads without login to be counted towards the points, I think overwhelming numbers of users wants it stopped altogether and make those who wants the models on this site sign up for an account.
As I said,
There probably is a reason why Printables and Thingiverse have to allow downloads without registration.
I don’t understand but how about let’s hear it from MW instead of coming up with vague reasons like “something to do with with some type of licensing” which answers nothing other than adds more to the confusion.
If there are no creators, there are no models, if there are no models the site is empty.
If you upload a model, no matter how new you are to it, you are a creator.
I am 100% in favour of people to be able to download my models without logging in. I hate having to sign up and log in for services.
I’ve already put it out there for free. My goal is to have the largest audience possible and the less barriers there are between my designs and the public, the better.
Some other model repositories require login. Grabcad for example. I would be surprised if it has anything to do with licensing.
Yes, if the site was just starting out but I would argue that Makerworld is already to a point that it is self-sustaining. The draw to the site is that it has a large core audience of people looking to use their Bambu printers. Smart creators will tap into this captive audience and use it to build an audience.
I’ll suggest again, the choice should be returned to the creators. Let each creator set for each of their models to be freely downloadable or require a login.
This is because MW applies differentiated counting between the two.
True, Grabcad does require a login but it also doesn’t allow you to apply your own licencing to the model you upload. You essentially waive all rights to your model if it is used for non-commercial or internal use.
