MakerWorld don't count every download

I don’t know - this is complicated mess for Bambu to resolve at this point. All I know is I’d much prefer a system that was straightforward and transparent as opposed to the mess that we’re in now. Simply raising the point value seems like the easiest path forward rather than layering in additional complexity to a currently (IMO) broken system.

I sent a reply to their ticket stating that me and other artists were putting our models in private. I made sure they knew what we felt.
For me is absolutely important to know the real data, as you said before.

Downloads have been nerfed repeatedly since the 4\17 on mine also.

Not a matter or rewards but I feel I have the right to know how many downloads and interactions a model I posted really have.
Please be active like us to let them know what you think

I agree.

Think they need to just do away with ‘free’ points from downloads, show use correct numbers. And change everything to boosts.

Though they could do things like once 10 boasts + 100 dl … you get points. this would be better at containing machine dl. over faking numbers.

Wrote this post on it.

I still don’t understand how allowing downloads when not logged in helps them thwart malicious actors from machine downloading.

I would say there are far better ways to achieve this, but, that would imply this was one of them and that would be wrong.

I don’t think they are referring to them just adding the system. I think if they counted it bots could abuse it.

Added something that bot could abuse… then make it not count which they are referring to… allows them say helps thwart…but original feature it self is not related to stopping bots.

Allowing bots to download without logging in defies the logic they were logging in and downloading before.

They were point harvesting, if downloading whilst not logged in doesn’t earn them points they can convert to coupons and then saleable goods, there isn’t a point in downloading whilst logged out.

They will simply find another way.

This is another ‘solution’ that only hurts those who don’t break the rules as those downloads are not counted for points nor statistics.

One or both of those are what the designers want and now get neither.

Yes, that is what i mean. If someone needs to be logged in and registered (very small sacrifice to do in order to get free models) to download or to upload, all the system would be more safe, for us and for Makerworld.
In this way instead I don’t feel recognized as a sculptor/modeler. I have the right at least to see how many downloads and interactions my models get.

It is sad that normal users are the ‘victims’ of people / bots abusing the system.
At first after the change of the platform and introducing the boost system I thought it would level out. But at this point I start getting the feeling something more is wrong. Instead of 50-100 downloads on average daily (with ocasional peaks of 150-200) the last few days I only reach 20 or even lower downloads, but I still receive the same amount of likes and collects. That together feels a bit strange.

These changes were never only about bots. Sure bots were/are a problem that needed addressing, but these changes were designed primarily to reduce the number of points issued and therefore gift cards claimed. The advertised changes (and the less transparent changes i.e to download metrics) are working as intended, as evidenced by all the complaints about downloads and points rewards dropping off a cliff.

The previous points model was clearly never sustainable so was always going to change at some point. Case in point, as a complete noob to 3D printing who bought an A1 Mini, Bambu Lab have now given me double the amount in gift cards than I have given them in cash. All because I uploaded a bunch of designs that were not even that popular. Popular designers with lots of models, the odd random model going viral and all the bots/users cheating the system must be costing them tons of gift cards.

That said, passing it off as only about combating bots is a bit sneaky, IMO it would have been better to be honest and say “the platform has grown, we’re moving out of beta phase so we have to drop rewards to remain sustainable”

It would be alright if the download data etc were correct but they are not.

Analytics are all messed up, it told me that my print profile had reached 150 downloads when it only has 56, and 56x2 is 112, not 150. Also, my latest has 2 boosts, 2 makes and no downloads…

I don’t know about putting what I’ve already posted to private but I’m definitely thinking twice about future uploads.

@NUKDDD
I guess it’s the print profile stats you’d need to check and not the model page stats.

Oh, thanks. That makes more sense

I hope that they retroactively resolve this issue, until then I am not putting my time into new models

And in reality you have 4 times more downloads which are not counted

lol 56x2… plus the prints that where made, you clearly reached the 150 so yeah analytics are okay with the pictures you showed, you just need to think about the printed models added to the downloads both added are a bit over 150 so yeah you clearly did 150 dl

Please understand that for safety reasons, downloads without logging in cannot be counted towards the point system. However, we acknowledge that as the original creator, you should have access to the actual download data of your models. We are considering adding raw download data to the analytics board, which will include all downloads of your models, regardless of the downloader’s login status. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused and look forward to welcoming your outstanding work back to MakerWorld soon. Thanks for your support.

So why did you allow people who are not logged in to download data? Just disable those options, it is absolutely normal that you have to be logged in to get something when there is a system that works with these data.
