MakerWorld Exclusive Program is now Live!

Agree, I’m a stickler for rules but the way this is rolled out it’s way too easy to enroll (almost incentivized) without reading the full list of guidelines first.

I can see many entering when they see if they slide the check box to get extra points and totally glaze over the link that says if you enter and its not up to par you’ll be punished.

You’re going to need to provide VERY SPECIFIC guidelines on what you consider to be “low effort” models.

I also suspect you’re going to get endless arguments about your guidelines, and will need a small army of CS reps to handle them (which you clearly do not and will not have).

If someone creates a “low effort” model, and it gets thousands of downloads, that’s still traffic that they’re driving to your site, “low effort” or not. It’s still traffic. It’s still page views. Why shouldn’t they be rewarded?

Like I said previously — you’ve just opened up a Pandora’s Box of nonsense, and I don’t think you’re prepared to handle it.

It’s transparently obvious what you’re trying to achieve here. You want the viral models, the next big hit models, to be exclusive to MakerWorld, so you can convince people to stop going to Thingiverse or Printables or Cults or Thangs. So you can claim “ownership” of that model. You’re disregarding the fact that those viral models probably make up less than 1% of all of the models that are on MakerWorld.

My models (lightboxes) are only available on MakerWorld. I haven’t uploaded them to any of the other sites. But based on your loosely defined criteria, they would probably fall into the “low effort” category, even though I have over 13,000 downloads.

I assume the 14 day exclusivity needs to be activated before publishing? I tried it a few hours later and it wasn’t possible.

after giving a look (and i did publish two exclusive models), i’m not sure how this will actually work, of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder and i’m not here to judge others peoples designs, but looking at the HUGE amount of models (which the quality, aesthetics, and function can be debatable), any model posted as exclusive stills gets lost in all of that. i’m not sure how much this will actually be beneficial for designers, i am considering that i’m most likely going back to my old non-exclusive ways

You can’t edit existing models to enter them into the 14 day exclusive period.

Editing only gets you into the full exclusive option.

You can choose when submitting new models.

I imagine no one considered that there is a 14 day period of models that could have qualified when adding the feature that I assume they figured it is only a two week issue that only occurs once.

They just need to tighten the qualifications for joining

It does appear that models that are yet to prove themselves only get the 2 week one while models that already have succeeded well can join it indefinitely

It a their site though, they decide what they want to bring them traffic

They want stuff that will drive traffic, but also stuff that will sell printers and filament

There are plenty of models out there with thousands of downloads and makes (pass throughs, filament clips, and line art) and while they drive traffic, one is piquing people’s interests and unique to 3d printing, while the other two are just quick and easy print made for point farming

Converted a featured model to exclusive. But now there are so many exclusive models that it doesn’t even make the features model stand out while browsing. @MakerWorld should really display both featured and exclusive on the thumbnail and model page so people can recognize the highlighted models.

Had this exact issue too

My featured status has been washed away in the sea of exclusive mush

I assume we will need to give it some time to get ironed out though, it has been under a day

I just set one of mine to exclusive. We’ll see how this goes! Fingers crossed for us both, heh.

So what about people that upload someone elses “Public Domain” Model and now enter the exclusive Program with it?

One example of someone doing exactly that.

You should be able to report that anyway for breaching the original model’s licence.

Noted, this suggestion has been raised quite a few times and we understand the needs from our creators. We will figure out a way to display both icons in the coming updates, thanks.

This model has been removed. It’s clear lack of originality disqualifies it from our Exclusive Program, and violation of the license of the original model resulted in the take-down.
We thank you for your notice and welcome all of our community members to help identify similar cases moving forward and let us know in the comments.
We appreciate all the assistance and advice we can get in the beginning to keep our Exclusive Program running smoothly. Again, thank you so much for your continued support!

Straight out of the wiki “AI generated content and Hueforges or other simple 2D designs will be removed from the program.

That is half the items I see in there when I just went browsing!

I had to go review the guidelines again just to make sure I read that right and they didn’t remove that clause.

(Half way down the article post in the first comment of this discussion, in the “Details and Accuracy” section for those that want to find it themselves.)

A quick search of the exclusive models for “Hueforge” or “2D” brings up thousands of results that are already in violation of the agreement.

Similarly, searching for “Pokémon”, “Disney”, “Marvel”, or “Star Wars” reveals thousands more models that are also in violation of the agreement because they do not own the intellectual property of their designs.

Ist im Grunde ärgerlich für viele Leute hier. Die damit erworbenen Punkte werden wieder abgezogen, wenn es aus dem Programm entfernt wird.

Indeed.

An “easy” solution would be to auto-reject all models in “Generative 3D model” category and subcategories.

Another “easy” win would be to auto-reject all models with certain tags, but then people could have “disney” tag on disney-inspired original creation.

The “easy” is in the quotes because once people notice then those tags/categories will be desert islands unless somehow correct categorization is forced

Problem with that is people will just not use the tags

For example, Remixes aren’t eligible for contests, but people just upload it as an original model, even if it’s a remix of their own design. This skips anything automatic and relies on reports

Edit: sorry just reread your comment and this is exactly what you meant

You are the last person that should be criticizing anyone for uploading designs they don’t own the intellectual property for.
