MakerWorld Lack of Quality Control is killing the Platform

It’s becoming increasingly frustrating to see how poorly MakerWorld enforces its own quality standards, to the point where the platform is being flooded with low-effort, AI-generated models that mostly violate its policies.

For example:

This model (like many others from the same user) is clearly AI-generated, lacks any photo of a printed object, has no print profiles, and the actual 3D model does not match the rendering shown (which is the only image provided).

Ignoring the quality of the model, there are at least two blatant violation of the platform policies here:

  • The absence of a photo of a real print.
  • A model that doesn’t match the visual preview.

Despite this, MakerWorld has rejected all the reports about it.

This is not just unfair to creators who take time to design, test, and document useful models but it’s actively rewarding people who upload meaningless, misleading content with zero effort. These uploads collect downloads (likely just curiosity clicks, not real prints), which generates points/money, and flood the platform with garbage, making it harder to find what someone is looking for.

MakerWorld is, of course, free to give their money to whoever it wants, but this approach is damaging for users and honest creators. :vulcan_salute:

You could try opening a Makerworld ticket as they care more about them than regular reports. Chances are they will actually notice you and remove it. Also most of the times the AI-generated STLs are deleted, you are really unlucky

Hey, thanks for your contribution.

I’ve had very similar experiences, submitted at least a dozen models without pictures and profiles and pretty much all of them were rejected. It’s slowly becoming too unregulated for me on this platform.

Like you say, you work on a model for hours/days, take several photos with great light, and you get flooded by 50 AI models in 2 minutes…

It’s no fun anymore if I’m honest, I almost have to force myself for every new upload. Because if you don’t have a lot of followers, it’s almost useless.

there is a whole post HERE about AI generated models go there and have fun reading people’s frustration.

but here is the thing to make you feel better, AI uploaders will not benefit from points, every users who gets a 1 bit of report or low rating will get reviewed when redeeming points, and moderators will take a look at their profile and when they see the are AI exploiting they will revoke their points and in some cases will put pelanties on their porfiles that it will make them bail on the idea of AI uploading.

I’m afraid it doesn’t work that way. If that were the case, new accounts with AI models wouldn’t be mushrooming so fast, there are more and more of them. Apparently it must be worth it :woman_shrugging:

my profile is well maintained following every bit of makerworld regulations, i don’t usually get reviewed on redeeming point.

but here is the story, i got reviewed twice only because i have one model that is getting occasionally hated by certain individuals they post harassment comments and they say that they reported the model, on the next point redemption it gets reviewed.

it is mushrooming so fast because most of AI exploiters are either kids or inexperienced users who wants a free printer in this case it is a huge chunk of the users, but it will dial down sooner than you think with the hidden procedure makerworld operating with…which is good, right?

I believe that it will be so… but I don’t have much hope

That forum discussion is a still ongoing discussion after all this time, that is correct. But you are wrong in everything you said.

Decorartor, Deltaprints, Black3dworks and many more are still uploading AI slop as we speak and Makerworld did nothing even near of what you said. Unless you know something we don’t know, what you said is wrong.

The only people that get penalized by MW are the small creators and not those who upload hundreds of models and have thousands of followers and downloads.

They don’t get any points revoked, didn’t get penalties on their profiles or nothing like it. Again, unless you know something we don’t know.

The reviewing of redeeming is random also. You can redeem 3 coupons today without waiting and tomorrow you just redeem one and must be reviewed. That is the same for everyone, as already proven.

By the way… There is no moderation at all. Moderation on MW is made possible by us, the users that report and are not being paid for it.

Happy Easter

Man you sound more frustrated than i am…

there is a lot of other things to worry about as creator other than those little one’s who exploit AI…yes AI is unfair and it’s just a passing hype which will phase out slowly, deltap****s whom spamming his profile with AI found a loophole (printability and user’s acceptance) that made makerworld look the other way.

as for the meantime i have more worries about new users who don’t know about 3d printing, and other users who make fake accounts to sabotage others. for some reason moderators are not accepting false information and harassment comments reports anymore.

trust me if you and me and other users like us moderate the website, it will be the cleanest website ever in the market XD

wishing you all the best brother.
