I wanted to share a bit of frustration and hopefully get some clarification about MakerWorld’s rating system. From what I’ve observed, it seems that you can only leave a star rating on a profile if your print was marked as “successful.” If I’m mistaken about this, please let me know, I’d really like to understand how it works.
In my opinion, a rating system should reflect the full range of user experiences, both positive and negative, so that others can make informed decisions before printing. I’ve had several cases where prints failed or didn’t match the description, and while I could leave a comment, I wasn’t able to leave a star rating.
Most recently, one of my ratings was removed with the explanation that my feedback “wasn’t related to the profile.” Technically, that’s true, my rating was based on the part’s functionality and the lack of information in the description (for example, a “jar” model that doesn’t actually have a lid that secures). Still, I think users should be able to rate profiles based on overall accuracy, usefulness, and communication, not just whether a print finishes successfully.
I’m frustrated because I wasted hours of my time, energy strategically executing the print, a waste of filament and electricity and wear and tear on my machine. All unnecessary due to an inappropriate description of the actual functionality of the piece I was printing.
I’m not trying to call anyone out, just hoping MakerWorld considers expanding or clarifying the rating criteria so users can give honest, balanced feedback.
You can leave a rating if it is not successful, but it maxes the amount of stars you can give to 3.
Sadly, not matching the description or lacking functionality is not really something that you are supposed to base your rating on. The print profile rating is specific to the print quality, not the model itself. The boost system is supposed to be the voting system to if a model is good or not (even though it does not really work that way in the real world).
Ratings also have to be taken with a grain of salt because a lot of creators will report bad ratings for misinformation and get them taken down.
A comment and not giving the model a boost is the way to go.
Many users do rate based on the model in addition to the print profile. It almost works like this: if the print failed, then the rating is only about the print profile because the user doesn’t have the model to evaluate. If the print succeeded, then the rating is also about the model’s quality and fuctionality.
Your rating got removed only because the uploader didn’t like it and found a reason to report it. All designers do not patrol their uploads looking for low ratings to remove. I think you can keep doing rating based on both the print profile and the model and accept that some may get removed.
What about rating profiles in general. After I’ve printed something I know that the option is provided to rate it upon completion of the print but I have not seen that lately and I don’t know how to rate the profile any other way until bambu handy sends me a rating reminder which doesn’t happen on half the prints so what do I do here? I’ve had some great profiles and prints recently that I’d love to give five stars to but I can’t see anywhere that can be done
