We’re thrilled to announce the latest update to MakerWorld, packed with features to empower creators and enhance the user experience.
Enhanced Boost System Incentives
Doubled Boost Token Distribution: Users will now receive twice the amount of Boost Tokens for their contributions.
Point Incentives for Boost Models: Users will get points rewards after boosting a model. Those who have already boosted models will receive retroactive incentives.
Adjusted Boost-to-Point Exchange Rate: The exchange rate has been adjusted to 1:12. Designers who have already exchanged Boost Tokens will receive retroactive compensation for the difference.
Parametric Model Maker Parametric Model Maker is now integrated into the model page. Users can customize the models with OpenSCAD files directly in the model page.
Email Notifications Never miss a beat with our email notifications. Stay informed about all the activity happening around your content and engage with your community.
Upload Model Files to Specific Folders Model files can now be uploaded to specific folders during the upload process.
Individualized Model Cover Uploads for Web and App Designers can now upload separate cover images web (4:3) and app (4:3 or 3:4) of models. We also provide a tool to crop images to 4:3 or 3:4 for better presentation.
Reduced Captcha for Registered Users Registered users will encounter fewer Captcha verifications. Repeated 3D previews or downloads of the same model will not trigger additional Captchas.
Added Contest Previews Hovering over the “Contest” tab in the header will display a preview of ongoing and upcoming contests. Future contest information is also available on the contest page.
Boost Received Notifications Users will now receive notifications when they receive Boost Tokens.
Sorting by Boosts in Category and Search Results Models can now be sorted by Boost count in category and search results pages.
It’s my own opinion but I will like to suggest MW emphasize the search box and For You page, rather than listings by Boosts, Likes, Downloads or Featured.
This allows more models to be discovered, vs more and more concentration on a small set of models.
Otherwise, thank you for continually taking in feedback and improving MW!
[Suggestion] @MakerWorld
I like the idea to hand out boost tokens based on actual printing. But I’d like to see two changes to improve the system:
I print a lot of items, but many of them are smaller. Set a limit of 2 >1h prints or X total printing time 2h, 3h, wherever. A way to drive engagement even if it’s in the smaller models. Remember that “long print time” does not necessarily imply “more complex” or “harder to design”.
For those of us who design models the points is an incentive, but why not grant boost tokens for uploaded models as well? 5 models give one boost token or similar. As the only thing i can do it rewarded it to someone else there should be low interest in abusing it. And if so, add a 3 day delay so abuse had time to get taken down. I’d love to be able to give out boost to designers who inspire me.
Finally a question/request for clarification:
It says I will get 5 points when giving a boost to a model for the first time. But the points received do not seem to match this.
So;
is it the first time I give a boost to a specific model (as you write)?
Or he first boost i give to a specific user?
Or when I give the first boost (of anyone) to a specific model?
It is the first time you give a boost to specific model. You may go through the Points Reward transactions. Today, the system also gives points for your history boosting. So, please find the first points income that is for “boosting a model”.
Please do not duplicate the “Someone boosted my model” information in the “3D Designs” notification area. If a designer receives more than a few boosts per month, this section will become completely confusing.
The mentioned information is already displayed in the separate boost area.
It’s nice to have a customizer button directly on the model page (if there’s a scad file).
I wonder what ‘validating’ the scad file actually means though.
I have a feature request though: I’d like to have a few parameter presets for a model (instead of one), maybe each with a small rendered image and a desctiption, for users to select from:
as examples for different possibilities
as multiple starting points (close to the user’s needs or taste) for their own variations
for typical use cases like common sizes for boxes etc.
Anywhere I can find an explanation for all of the special icons a model can have in the top corner? I’m trying to figure out the one that looks sort of like a box or treasure chest.
@MakerWorld, I would like to second this suggestion.
I don’t really download many other models, except for functional prints or random gifts, but I would also like to support other designers when I see something I like.
I’m on MakerWorld just about every day and always responding to comments on my uploads, so I’m fairly active in my community, but have not received any Boosts to give out since the first ones. It would be nice to see the distribution of Boosts expanded to designers in some way and not just those downloading.
This needs some watch. It may help to showcase good niche models or it may do the opposite: making models that are already popular even more popular and getting even more rewards.
I would suggest MW calculate baseline statistics of the following categories: Percentage of boosts received by models that have been downloaded A) >=1k; B) 500-999; C) 100-499; D) 1-99. Then calculate the percentage of the same 4 categories every week from now on to see how the percentage changes. If the boost percentage goes up for the models that already had high downloads, then it is doing the opposite of helping niche models.
FIRST The app and Web Cover photo seems redundant. I never encountered an issue on the prior version when uploading a single photo that represented the model on either platform… they all worked fine? Not sure what thats about…
secondly, the bill of materials… If I click “yes, non 3d printed parts are required” I then have to select from ONLY the parts you offer… which makes no sense… There should be the ability to physically list parts that need sourced other places. So currently, If a model we design requires special screws, bearings, rods, etc… we have to physically type the parts names, desc, link etc into the description of the model, and hope that the reader acually pays attention. (I recommend to all the currenty uploaders, that you make it bold and adjust your font style so its super large and then underline and make it bold so downloaders dont miss your specifically needed parts!) and renders that section of the upload basiaclly useless to us.
Sorry. I should have explained when I posted the pic, but I sprained my upper left Police Quarrel playing basketball this afternoon, so typing is a little tough at the moment.
As @SimEyeSee said, take a look at the yellow circle on the pic I posted. There is a box where you can list every part that isn’t a Maker Supply part.
