Moving to FDM printer, any help is appreciated!

Hello

Currently, I am using a resin printer and I am thinking of moving to a FDM printer (using a 0.2 nozzle) because of three reasons:

-First, resin prints are wearable and versatile and not suitable for mechanical parts
-Second, resin prints post curing is really a headache.
-Third, I need the parts to be printed in two colors.

I guess the only concern with moving to a FDM printers is about print details as the model is a 2cm ring with almost fine details.

I reached out to support but they were not supportive at all! They left me with only one choice that I can come here and ask for others info and experience.

I wanted to ask if any one can help me on by printing a test model to see the result.
I really appreciate any help on this matter.

Thank you

Hello. I could easily print you a version of your design if you wish. I have a 0.2 nozzle I’ll just do it in pla. Its not just the nozzle it’s also the layer height which can be very fine as well

I’m can’t say for certain on way or another what the quality would be compared to a resin printer.

However I can appreciate all the hassle you have with a resin printer with all the curing etc

You would not get the same fine details on a FDM than you would on a resin printer.
That being said, the detail you get from a FDM printer may be suitable for your needs.
It’s good that @Dawill has offered to print you a sample.

They answered your questions truthfully with ā€œNo that is not an optionā€. They did exactly what they are supposed to do you just didn’t like the answer.

That would be great! Thank you for your response and offer.
If by any chance it works out, I will be able to print parts faster and with less hassle.
Please let me know how to send the file.

I really appreciate your help.

Welcome to the forum.

Here is a good article comparing the printing methods.

If you load the file into Bambu Studio you can attach the .3mf file to the forum post.

I think it is a very common request when you want to purchase a device for specific tasks, especially a 3D printer which can have various specifications and issues.
I have asked the same requests from two other manufacturers and both offered me a 14 days test and return period. But, based on users experiences, I decided to go for M1 mini and give it a try.
Also when I was searching for a DLP printer, I got the same offer from 3 manufacturers and after testing, I kept one and returned the other 2

@lion7718 has experience in printing minatures you could ask them for any help you may require also with an A1 mini

I’ve done a few…for testing purposes, I’m sure they’re better people to ask then me. :upside_down_face:

I read the article, thanks for sharing.
I have watched several videos of people printing minis with acceptable details using M1 mini with costume settings.

I am truly grateful to @Dawill for doing test prints for me using 0.2 mm nozzle and 0.1 layer height.
Overall, details are acceptable. But some areas with slopes are uneven and with appearance of lines.
Is it possible to make the marked areas smoother?
Really appreciate having your thoughts on this.

Looks like a cooling issue…
You might try turning off ā€œSlow down for overhangsā€. (uncheck the box)

It should be possible to get a better result than that, even with a 0.4 nozzle. I would probably use adaptive layer height on this one, as I use with most things. I have adjusted the low to 0.04 layer height, and 0.28 as max. Gets good results, and it doesn’t take much more time than printing it all at 0.20.

UPDATE:
I just received another test print which has been done in two color using 0.4 nozzle and carbon fiber filament. The material is tough and the details are not bad. Based on what I read, most tough filaments do not work with 0.2 nozzle and Ams light. Any suggestion on what relatively tough filament can be used on A1 mini and Ams light?

Thanks for sharing.
I sent these settings to a 3d printing service supplier but ended up in failed prints, using P1S.
It can be said that the most influential factors in the field of production, specially 3d printing, is constantly studying and gaining experience which comes mostly from trial and errors.
Could you please let me know what filament you use with these setting?

Thanks for sharing.
Actually among several test prints I have received, the best one so far is printed with P1S and 0.4 nozzle.
I don’t know, maybe the 0.2 nozzle is not the key factor. Still need to work on settings and filament material.
