How does this new filament hold up to outdoor use? I don’t see any specifications that include UV resistance.

You should have done more than 48h, or at least annouce it a bit later at the start of august, some of us need to get paid first to be able to get some, kind of unfair ahahaha

All 3 features of this new PLA Tough are great, particularly the ability to withstand repeated flexing.

A few questions:

How does PLA Tough compare with PETG on repeated flexing?

Can PLA Tough be added to the comparisoni table?

The strength testing was done after 8 hours of annealing at 50c. Most users don’t do that after the print is done. Is there an estimate of strength without annealing, such as 80% of the tested strength?

Would it make sense to recommend annealing to the general users?

How would one address adequate ventilation for open-air printers like the A1?

The MSDS is full of “No Data Available” for hazard, stability, and toxicity information; the safety precautions are unchanged boilerplate; and the additive is in significant proportions (10-20%) of an undeclared material.

What material are the 10-20% of additives? What specific safety concerns are there that would require ventilation now?

I hope we eventually get some Pla-Ht. That stuff looks amazing.

Open the windows or better, find a simple ventilation solution? I did one like this.

The following is from the BL store page. It mentioned possible odor due to higher printing temp as the reason for ventilation. But yes, if the additive(s) alter PLA Tough to the point that the toxicity profile is significanlty different from other PLAs, then it should state so.

“PLA Tough+ requires a higher printing temperature to deliver enhanced mechanical performance, which may produce some odor during printing. Make sure your workspace is well-ventilated.”

I’ve been around chinese product marketing long enough to know that if they mention “tee hee, open a window, it might get stinky” it usually means something legitimately dangerous is happening. Formaldehyde, Styrene, whatcha got?? Yeah. I’ll ventilate, but I also want to know WHAT is being produced, for my own safety consideration…

Bambu PLA basic at or above 240C already stinks a lot (cold pulls). PLA Tough+ prints at 245C in the default profiles… so yeah, even if the additives are all safe, it’s still going to stink from just the PLA.

But nevertheless they should still provide more clarification on the safety.

What are the most valuable differences to SUNLU’s PLA+ or PLA+2.0 ? Or is it even from the same company?

The description of Sunlu PLA+ 2.0 seems similar to that of Bambu PLA Tough, except that it doesn’t say anything about withstanding repeated flexing like Bambu PLA Tough does.

It’s quite possilbe different brands come from the same factory or a few factories. If anyone has info on this please share to satisfy some curiosities, such as who, filament brands or factory, works with materials scientists to come up with the formulation for their brands.

Some brands may also have their own unique process or tech in specific area. Sunlu’s filaments always come neatly wound. I use mostly Bambu filaments, but I wish they have better winding on the spool.

The first and last cold pull I did was more than 2 years ago with another brand. I don’t remember how it smelled, if any. I am one of the people who are sensitive to chemical and smells, and I have not been bothered while printing PLA in its various forms.

I will see if I need to turn on my DIY window exhaust fans when I get the PLA Tough next week. If it stinks I will definitely smell it and will turn on the fans to get rid of the odor. I am less concerned about harmfulness/safety around PLAs.

Bambu’s old PLA Tough was definitely esun, not Sunlu.

Does anyone know if eSun and Sunlu come from the same factory or different factories?

If this new PLA Tough works out, it will replace PLA basic on a lot of things. It may even replace ABS on some models, and PETG on some other models.

I was just asking, because when I ordered filament from Bambu lab,1 pack was „neutral“ and the other had SUNLU brand on it.

In addition to the specific workding of the withstand repeated flexing feature, Bambu PLA Tough has higher printing temp than the Sunlu PLA+2.0. So even if they are from the same factory, there are probably some differences in how the two are made.
