"No identical spare consumables available", w/identical BL spools

I have 2 identical Bambu Lab PLA spools loaded in my AMS, and yet it still tells me that auto refill is not available because there are no identical spare consumables available. I have synced and re-synced, and tried everything that I can think of. Same colors set, exact same BL filament w/ RFID. I hope it is something simple that I am missing, because I really need for this to work properly.

I’m puzzled that it is showing slot 3 as loaded, as this would not be typical before printing. As I understand it, backup only works when there is a higher-numbered slot in the same AMS available. So, 3 should work as a backup for 2, but not vice-versa.

Why would the slot number order matter? That’s ridiculous. Is this information in a wiki or manual?

I have the exact same problem !

Welcome @patman. Yes it appears to be a real bug, hope they get it resolved soon.

On the picture it looks like slot 2 is white colour ~50% full, slot 3 is grey at perhaps 5% full and slot three is yellow? Am I looking at it wrong? Or is the slot 3 actually also white?

This worked for me just fine, even with lower-numbered slots. Is it also the same type - isn’t one of them set as PLA Matte instead of just PLA or something like that?

Again, both WHITE Bambu PLA basic, RFID tag on both. One is full, one was about 30% full at the time this screenshot was taken. I can’t get it to work on any identical spools.

I have the same problem. Exactly identical spools AND settings.
Very frustrating.

It will load the Ext Spool if one of the slots is empty, but the AMS does not switch to another slot.
I cannot imagine this is working as it should.

What version of firmware are you running on the Printer and AMS?

Printer is 1.04.00, AMS is 06.40. I had the printer on 1.04.01, but that was when I first noticed that the auto-refill was not working, so I rolled it back to 1.04.00, but no joy.

Try moving the reels in use to A1 and A2.

I have had the identical spools on all reels of both units, 2 at a time while troubleshooting this. I have also tried it with one loaded, and both unloaded. It have never detected that there are identical spools loaded.

So frustrating!

Is it just the error that is the issue? That might be a bug. Have you tried printing from slot one, cutting the filament and seeing if it will load the same type from slot two automatically?

Is the issue just with the BL filament?
I tried replicating the problem (no BL filament) and got no error message.
Maybe I missed a step.

To activate the feature, I just need to click on the AMS settings “AMS filament backup”?

That is correct . +20 characters

I needed a confirmation, as mine doesn’t show any alert by selecting that option.
I remember being prompt with that alert weeks ago. I never used the function, but it was solved with one of the latest firmware.

So I just tried it with two identical BL spools. I still got the message that no identical spools were available, but the actual feature worked. Thanks for bringing this up as a possibility, I’m going to mark it as a solution. Hopefully they will fix the bogus error message in a future release.
