Noisy Z-hop?

I recently got a P2S which have very satisfactory for the price.

One thing though is I find z-hop a bit noisy: when used in silent speed the major sound I hear is z-hop making almost a little knock.

Do everyone use z-hop all the time?

Is it normal that it is a bit noisy?

Is there any way to reduce the amount of z-hops? For example only when moving between parts? (Not inside a part for doing infill for instance).

Except slowing it down / reducing distance / acceleration is there any way to make it more silent?

I am experiencing exactly the same problem/phenomenon. I noticed right away on the first print that there was a noise I have not heard from my P1S. The noise is so loud that it propagates throughout the hole house, so annoying. I thought a new model would be a little quieter and not the other way around. The machine works fine otherwise but I am really disappointed with this noise. It feels like Bambu has put a cheaper version of the stepper motor in the P2S versus the P1S.

I have filed a case with Bambu but they just bury their heads in the sand on this one…

I’m no expert in the field but I don’t think you can reduce the number of z-hops or make it slower, but I could be wrong :slight_smile:

There are quite a lot of settings in Orca, and there could be something to fiddle with around the z-axis belt, lets look around! I’ll report back if i find anything.

I had a look at the z axis belt and it seemed all fit and tight. It’s probably mostly because tool head is very discrete in silent mode; while moving the Z is more difficult to optimise..

Yeah, just got it and while the rest of the printer is much more silent than my A1 (especially the fans). The Z hop are a lot more noticeable, there’s a resonance on the Z axis that you can’t miss on those fast z-hops. Sounds like dog barking from across the street…. It’s as if the noise cancellation wasn’t applied on the Z axis.
I did manage to dampen it a little with a washing machine dampening mat under the P2S and a piece of it that I cut and placed on the bottom of the printer. It’s not revolutionary but it is noticeable…

I’ve got a long thread about this, and just the overall noise of the machine. No part of this machine is quieter than my A1, that barking Z hop is un tamable.. just like with the a1 after I had it for a while bambu launched an update that allowed z motor noise cancellation, they REALLY need to do this here as this printer is un usable living in an apartment. I’m spending more money on vibration and wall sound dampening than I did on the machine… sigh… I wish one of the reviewers would have mentioned this before I bought it. I don’t know what to do with this machine.

Exactly… there is NO z axis cancellation, at least not on mine it only does x and y.

actually, after digging, I found out that the noise cancellation simply doesn’t work out of the box because of bambu’s bad Gcode. Quirks and poorly optimized settings / firmware

Try my version of the start gcode, the printer is MUCH more silent than my A1 now.

WHAT??? No way… I am definitely going to try it.

When you say start G code you don’t just mean the homing and pre print settings right? Are you talking about during the print as well?

Just edit your printer settings and replace the start gcode by mine, and you get a more silent printer (I haven’t tried a more recent version but all I know is that my start gcode fixed it for me and a few other users) :sweat_smile:

My issue with noise was more so during printing. I’ve done a lot to quiet that z hop sound but it makes it un usable at night. Your settings are just for start up right? Thats what I was askin

No, it does make the print significantly quieter since the noise reduction was activated before input shaping was, making the command completely useless.
Then entire print benefits from it (at least on my firmware version)

Copy pasted your G.code. If my printers burns up its your fault lol.

Scoof… this is weird.

I gotta say I don’t see a difference in start time, recently bambu lanched a patch for machine start g.code for the p2s, it may have removed one of those homing cycles maybe thats why i’m not seeing that but…

Somehow that z.hop noise does seem quieter… maybe It’s placebo I don’t know!

I’m confused why it would make a difference, especially considered the motor noise cancelation has nothing to do with the z axis at this point. maybe a lot of it was what came after the z move.

That mixed with the sound dampening I have done inside and below the machine in the z area may have talked me into doing overnight prints

*EDIT: Nope I was wrong, it was placebo and must be the test print I was doing. Still barks too loud for night time.

We got an H2s at work and also have an x1c there. that h2s is whisper silent, X1c has louder overall noise but the z is again dead silent compared to this thing.

I think bambu really missed the mark noise wise on this printer.

@Scoof Thank-you for creating this profile. I also have the (seems quite common) issue of “A dog barking in the night” with the Z Axis, and I will look at your custom G-code to see if it is a solution.
