Hoping someone could shed some light on this. I recently printed a model using a glow in the dark PLA (about 200g). This is on the factory 0.4mm nozzle which to my understanding is stainless steel. I found at after the fact this type of filiment is really hard on the nozzles, so was going to order a complete factory nozzle assembly (not just the hot end). I noticed Bambu does not have an option to order a 0.4mm stainless steel nozzle assembly for the P1P. Only hardened steel. Is there disadvantages to using a hardened steel nozzle for regular PLA use? I don’t plan on using glow in the dark any more. Why do they not have the option for stainless? Do you think printing 200g of this would have damaged my nozzle? I am away from my printer right now at work this week. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks.
200g probably won’t hurt much, I’d think, and I’ve never heard of any problems with PLA and hardened steel. Mine is printing some right now.
Not sure what steel they’ve used in either, but the heat transfer numbers are most likely close, probably around 14k for the stainless and if it’s nickel-steel, probably not much difference.
Espically compared to Copper at 400k and brass at 110k or so.
The only disadvantage to hardened steel is that it costs more. That is why stainless steel is the default for the P1P.
I agree that the only disadvantage is cost. My X1C came with a hardened nozzle and I’ve 380 hours of mostly PLA printing on it with no nozzle related issues. Plenty of loose nut behind the wheel issues though.
Ok. Thanks for confirming! Will go ahead and order the hardened nozzle assembly.
Is the hardened extruder able to be installed on the P1P?
The P1P has its own nozzle assembly in the store. It is not the same feom the X1C. Looks like its available in most sizes.
That makes sense. I checked the extruders and saw the hardened extruder was only available for the X1C, but was fairly certain people with P1Ps were upgrading the extruders too.
Matt: Sorry. Misread the extruder for nozzle in your reply. Good to know that it will work as well.
