It is rather common for a person of apparent authority to make an obviously false claim and for most people to just nod along, while others are going, WTF? It is like back when George Bush was pushing his hydrogen car ideas. All the country was excited and his ratings rose. Yet there were those who knew, as the words stumbled out of Bush’s mouth, that it takes more energy to extract hydrogen than can ever be realized using it as a fuel source.
There is this great big gullibility factor that wrecks havoc across society. A gullibility that people like Rossman capitalizes on.

If this does get to trial (whether by Pavel’s choice, or by Bambu’s choice), should Rossemann fail to deliver on the 10k promise, he’d be done for good. Not only as youtuber, but in his professional life as well. I’m not that naive to believe any and every guy or gal with an YouTube channel keep their word, but compared with many others, Rossemann has a traceable history of commitment and delivery on what he promised… so, yeah, I think he’ll deliver if, eventually, this matter gets to court.

Bambu has now woken the sleeping lion. Something that everyone always warns against doing - normally, relates to users. I never thought a company would actually do that.
But I won’t post the link for that… but oh well…
A team is now working on reverse-engineering the firmware. Whether that will actually work is another matter, but let’s just say… people are really motivated because of recent events.
Bambu cannot do anything about that in Europe since, reverse engineering is legal in Europe. I have no idea how the situation is in other countries; I can’t comment on that. Usually, this kind of thing is rarely done, since it requires an enormous amount of knowledge, endurance, and patience; only the most dedicated of the dedicated actually do it.
That’s definitely not just another average “backslash” anymore…
That 10k is not enough. The cheapest lawyer will probably still charge over $500 an hour which translate to 20 hours of work at the most.
Also if he really means it, he should set up an escrow account to put that money in, or set up a GoFundMe and use his influence to help pull money into it. This is the only way to show the developer that the money is really there. Once the developer puts the code backup, he is defying the cease and desist letter and the legal action begins.
The developer cannot rely on someone’s words to take the big risk of having to pay a large sum of penalty just because some loud online influencers and users who have no personal skin on the fight but want the developer to fight for them at his own risk.
I do agree with the influencer that people should put their money where their mouth is. Put down some money and at least have some skin on the fight.
It never went down. The original developer’s git was forked repeatedly before it went offline. The forks are still there.
Well, i was coming here to say that i also asked the company lawyer about it (as i previous said i would do at the meeting today) but i think that it is not necessary anymore.
Anyway, i will wait for the full breakdown that he will give me tomorrow, since he needs to check all the documentation that could influence the case.

Bambu’s “impersonation/hacking” legal threat will get shredded if they ever send it, but I suspect they are paper tigers. I said it the moment they blogged about a fckin user_agent string as evidence. user_agent. Seriously stupid, sounds like a legal intern asking chatGPT for analysis. If you’ve worked in webservers or API development in the last 2 decades you know how stupid this argument is. Think fast, whats gecko, or trident? lol. Stupid is the word, i mean to offend, the behavior is offensive, time consuming, and self defeating.

I like Bambu printers, I really do. But the fact that the ecosystem is so locked up (and is being further tightened) remains as a top concern to me.
This all could have been avoided if Bambu would update Studio at a halfway respectable pace, and actually give us half the features we want.
People aren’t going to Orca because they want fewer features and a worse slicer. Think about it.
I was talking to a developer, and it gave me a new perspective on the topic. Please take this with a grain of salt, but if it’s true, things are looking bad for Bambu:
It is impossible to verify whether that is true, but one thing is certain: it is true that the script has been updated and checked on a weekly basis since 2024. It’s impossible to overlook the fact that, at the very least, it can be assumed that it was intentional by Bambu Developer.

I had a deep dive into this and the usefulness of the libbambu_networking.so library is pretty limited. It’s intentionally obfuscated with tamper and anti-vm protection so it won’t initialize when running outside Bambu Studio. It has to run in an Intel x86_64 Linux subsystem or a full Linux implementation. That effective shuts down running on MacOS silicon or other ARM platforms.
Short answer is this back door only works on Intel Windows and Linux platforms.
If you want to use OrcaSlicer and not have your printer in LAN only mode, then Bambu Connect is the only real option. That will require a fork of Orca to make it happen. I might work on something like that shortly.

That’s my biggest gripe - having to choose between Orca on LAN OR Studio/Handy over cloud.
Limiting cloud access to “secured” Studio: no problem from me. Just let me control/LAN print with Orca/Panda Touch at THE SAME TIME and I’m happy as. Connect is workflow interrupting garbage.
You can use Tailscale and upload a file or start printing as if you were in your own local network.
Tailscale is free and it’s a good use case for this scenario.
