I have a (cardboard) spool of Overture Matte PLA. It extrudes fine, but when switching filaments or at the end of a print, it has difficulty in “retracting.” After this I must manually open the AMS and wind the filament back into the spool. I tried this insert adapter to no avail. Has anyone else had this issue and, if so, how did you fix it?
Cardboard spools don’t grip well on the feeder rollers that are trying to spin the spool backwards. I have found some of these rings and other adapters slip too, especially if the spool is not full. Sometimes adding a weight to the center helps.

Try the polymaker adapters; they should fit. My overture rolls work great in my ams.
Do the polymaker adapters work better than this one?
Do you use electrical tape or anything of the sort?
I have not. The adapters grip fine to the rollers.
I use the basic skinny spool rings and havent had any issues. also is this on a near empty spool? I have also seen people use the spool weights / desiccant holders that go inside the spool to help add some weight so that they do not slip.
