P-1S and AMS 2 Pro feeding issues

So I have a P1S and I purchased an AMS2 Pro. First AMS unit I got the filament would make it through the buffer and go about 1/2 way up the right side tube of the buffer then retract. Tried all three slots and got the same failed load. If I take the right side tube off it will clear the buffer and the filament will flow with no problems. I made a ticket and they wanted me to do some testing with a volt meter on the mother board. I was like ■■■■ no, send me a new unit. I sent the logs and videos of this issue. Crickets. But when I disputed the charge with PayPal that got their attention and I was sent a new unit. But when I connected it all I got the same problem. Any ideas or solutions would be appreciated very much!

a picture of the set up would help, but it sounds like the radius of the bowden tube is too tight or the coupling on the back of the printer is backwards, if it makes it that far. (Blue towards printer)

This is the second unit that’s exhibiting the same problem. I disputed the charge with PayPal and that got their attention. I might try the regular AMS instead. I cut that tube to see if I could get it to go further ie trying to rule out bad ptfe tube.

my tube out of the buffer is ~3x that long, I have the same combo. I’ve had two similar problem, once when I had the black/blue union backwards. The other when the tube going into that same union on a slight angle, just pushing down to get it seated fixed that.

It suck as I really wanted to get into some multi color prints. Thoughts on getting a plain AMS?

I have ~500 hours with my P1S and plain AMS. Mostly satisfied, not much problems, but I am using rather “standard” materials PLA, PLA Wood and ABS.

Until recently, when all 4 slots of my AMS failed to push material to the print head. Turned out it was the internal filament hub of the AMS. Got a replacement, and very happy with it (again).

The drying function of the AMS2 Pro sounds nice, but I have built my own filament dryer and the AMS keeps the material dry, even without built-in heater.

that has some of its own issues, but you seem to have a more basic issue since 2 different systems did the same thing. Unless there’s a production quality problem with the new units, but can’t say if its the buffer or the sensor in the AMS.

Do you know someone that has one near you that you can borrow to test?

My brother in law has one but it’s a pain in the ■■■ to get it over to him unhook all his stuff and hook it up. Thanks for your insight! Probably gonna go with the regular AMS.

Got my first AMS2 hooked it up to my P1S and the filament would make it through the buffer only to make it half way up the exit PTFE tube and retract. Went through the nut role with their CS. Send pics, send logs, send videos etc. They even wanted my to test something with a voltmeter. I put my foot down and said this was ridiculous. They finally sent a return label. Boxed it up and sent it back. Got another unit and same problem. At this point I want my money back. I’m waiting on a response….. so very frustrating. What got their attention is when I disputed the transaction with PayPal. I have had to do that again. What a shame. They can do better

Two devices with exactly the same error? From different batches? That’s really strange and unusual. It’s possible, no question, but are you sure it wasn’t a error in the setup?

I don’t get why that’s supposed to be ridiculous if the support team is helping you. Sure, the support isn’t the best, but generally speaking, they are interested in solving the problem.

If the filament isn’t feeding properly, it could be due to user error: tubes that are too long, bends that are too tight, or filament spools that are too light or made of cardboard.


You’ve already started a thread on this:

I can understand why you’re frustrated - no question about it - but even though 3D printing is often advertised as “click and print,” there are many factors that need to be taken into account.

If you go ahead and get a regular AMS, as you described in your other thread, you might very well end up with the same problem again. 3D printing just has its pitfalls, especially when it comes to routing the tubes. What type of filament spools are used, etc.

Above all, you need to make sure you order the right accessories for the AMS2 & P1: a filament buffer (SA003), a PTFE tube connector (FAZ006). Every printer needs a different filament buffer

Thanks very much. I have a lot of experience in resin 3d printing and the P1S is amazing compared to the mess that resin makes not to mention the failed resin prints. I cut the tubes per the instruction manual and I’m using plastic spools. Any help would be appreciated.

Just a quick question: Have you checked to make sure you received the right filament buffer? SA003 and not, for example, the SA011?

Or to put it another way: You’ve ordered and received this set already, haven’t you?


Have you checked out the Wiki yet? What they suggest? I don’t know what you’ve already tried, so I’m just asking the basics. Does your setup look like this?

Also, make sure the tubes are deep enough and secure. They should also be cut cleanly, not at an angle.




Like I said, you might have already done most of it, but I don’t know where things stand right now. That’s why I’m asking a few basic questions.

Make sure your buffer spring looks exactly like the one in the photo above and not asymmetrically bunched up/slanted as if it is caught on one side.

I’ve also had trouble when I cut a tube with scissors and the end pinched into an oval shape. It was just enough to add a little drag. I re-cut with a razor and that solved it.

By chance are you using your own PTFE tubes instead of the ones that came with the printer?

I will echo @RetroSharky ‘s original comments, it’s exceptionally uncommon to see this issue once, much less twice. This sounds a lot more like something systemic in how you’ve set up the equipment. Do you have the PTFE tubes absolutely, positively inserted 100% into their receivers?
