I got the full p1p → p1s upgrade kit and have been struggling through it. I finally got to the point where you apply the panels, but the screws shown in the video and on the wiki (Screw H?) simply don’t fit. There were a very small number of other types of screws included with the panel but none of those fit either. Did anyone else have this problem?
There was a bag with very small screws that I had in the kit which did fit the top holes that hold the panel on.
was it taped to the panel or somewhere else? I tried every screw in the bags taped to the panel
This is all assuming you were supplied the correct screws but it sounds like a familiar problem I had when skinning my original P1P. I experienced this on a number of different holes on my P1P and found a solution.
When I encountered this issue, I figured out that the problem likely occurred during production when the factory used dull or worn-out taps to create the threads. I’ve noticed this problem often in computer cases I use for building systems. It’s quite common in the sheet metal industry, especially when dealing with low-cost Asian contract manufacturers. Based on this suspicion, I bought an M3 tap and re-threaded the holes, and that solved the problem!

If you’re not comfortable or have never used a tap and die set, simply look it up on YouTube, there are hundreds of videos that will show you how to properly use them.
Keep in mind that I encountered this issue only on the factory threaded holes on my P1P that had never been used with screws before. If you’ve had a similar problem with holes that previously had screws in them, it’s essential to inspect the screw threads and ensure you didn’t accidentally damage the hole when attempting to insert the screw. Regardless of the situation, my solution will resolve the threaded hole problem.
For screws, I found that it’s a good practice to have a variety of M3 screws on hand in your case-modding toolkit. This is a wise idea if you plan to modify your case regularly. Additionally, although Bambu provides a generous number of extra screws, I’ve created some of my own mods and come across a number of panel mods that benefited from longer screws, so having a variety of screw lengths on hand was very helpful.
I bought a box of assorted M3 screws with the same hex head as the P1P to avoid mixing them with my usual Philips head screws. This way, I only need one tool when working on the printer. Fortunately, Bambu standardized on same thread and heads for the entire case. Note: the print nozzle uses a different screw. The box of screws I purchased(see link below) also come with nuts which I used used to double check if the screw is cross-threaded. If I can’t easily thread the nut onto the screw, then the screw is likely damaged. This test will also help you from risking damaging the case thread by attempting to force a damaged screw into a hole.
The nut can also act as a makeshift die to fix minor thread damage. Just use a pair of vise grips to hold the nut in place and screw in the screw. If it resists, you likely have damaged threads, but using the nut can either repair minor damage or confirm that the screw threads are beyond repair.
Thanks for this detailed post, I’m really hoping it doesn’t get to this point (I have no experience with this stuff) but support just responded to my “Screw H doesn’t fit” email with “you need to use screw H and not another screw” so who knows.
I’m not sure if the wiki was updated later or I missed it, but at any rate: the correct screws for the top of the panels is type J, not H. (ST2*3.5). Bambu didn’t include these in the kit so I’m trying to work with support to find an alternative source to buy them as they apparently don’t have them on hand to ship out.
