P1S - Adhesion issues immediately after updating firmware

Hi,

Has anyone else had adhesion issues moving from firmware version 01.03.00.00 to 01.04.00.00?

I upgraded this morning and had instant adhesion problems, not even the purge line was adhering to the PEI textured plate.

Downgraded the firmware back to 01.03.00.00 and started printing normal again.

Thoughts?

I did the firmware update today on one of my P1S’s. After download did a power recycle followed by a calibration (with bed leveling). No adhesion problems so far.

I tried that, no improvements

Just updated my 2nd P1S, no adhesion problems on that one either. At this point doesn’t sound like firmware. I don’t know enough about these machines yet to get much deeper into the inner workings without guessing.

Been printing small projects non stop since the update, no issues. The firmware is HIGHLY unlikely to have affected adhesion. Only way that is possible is through temps or Z offset. Again, highly unlikely.

If there was an odd line of code that changed your setup, run the bed leveling pre-print and see if that helps. However, what I’d bet your problem is finger prints. Wash your plate and be sure not to touch the print area.

Well, by just donwgrading the firmware I corrected the issue. I guess I will stick with the old firmware.

For some reason mine changed the filament setting in Studio from PLA to PETG after the upgrade from 01.03.00.00 to 01.04.00.00. If I hadn’t spotted that and printed it would cause an adhesion issue for sure.

I have notice similar issues with X1C that @charlie.waterworth mentions. Random filaments in my AMS changed presets/types. I have never printed ABS and it was labeling my PETG-CF as that… Caught it before I printed… So i agree, this could be occurring as well. After I upgraded my Firmware on x1c i had to allow ams to fully resync and do the filament tests that it does when inserting a new roll. Prior to that, setting would not remain…

Since you obviously have some skills on this topic I’d like to ask a question while adding my experience with the latest firmware/new textured plates,

I got the new “goldy” textured build plates, I loved the previous.

However I got an unexpected problem, I now have to much adhesion making the filament leave islands of stuck filament that is very hard to remove with the plastic scrapers (That I used until now)

This must be a noob question but how do you guys solve to good adherence?
(I’m guessing you dont use gluestick on the textured plates since you loose the surface finish that you got the textured plates for in the first place…?!?)

@checharlie i just updated the firmware and im having the same issues in going to try and downgrade my firmware and see if that works

I’ve been printing for awhile with abs. Have great adhesion but I have to print with a brim. Without one I was having problems. In fact it holds too well until I cool the plate down. But once cool my prints just slide off. Clean the plate with 99% alcohol.

Always pays to factory reset the printer after upgrading the firmware. No settings are affected. Then run the calibration ~12 min from the printer menu.
If you’re having first layer adhesion issues, run a single 2 layer print, square or circle, just something so you can check how it’s being laid down and if the sensors are doing their job. ABS and ASA are especially finicky as the layers shrink as they cool which can lift the model of the bed. Sometimes this can be as simple as the model shape having long thin parts. I find 3dlac or magigloo works well and make sure you preheat the bed for 10 or 15 minutes before printing to get the chamber up to 35-40c

Same thing here… I’ve been having adhesion problems since a few days ago, which I think coincides with the update to 01.04.02.00

Parts that did not need brim before are consistently failing now.

Gonna try the downgrade and I will report if any improvements !

Update: after reverting to 01.04.01.00 problem was still the same. Instead of alcohol I used dish soap and abundant water to clean the bed… problem solved
