P2S + AMS Pro 2 Filament feed when end of spool

I have just completed the second spool of filament with the auto switch turned on in the AMS. Unfortunatly this is also the second time it has failed to switch without my assistance. It seems that as soon as the filament pulls away from the tape on the spool, the printer has a desire to reverse the filament back into the AMS. Without the tape holding it to the spool, it only does this so long and merely rotates the spool while the filament sits in the feed in the AMS. I have to pull it back until the AMS begins feeding it again. The first time all I had to do was pull the filament back far enough for the AMS to pull it back towards the printer again. This time every time it pulled back it got stopped in the buffer and pulled back again. I am not sure what the buffer problem is but how do I get the AMS to stop reeling it back at the end of the spool?

Unfortunately it seems this is a common issue. With the whole tape part. Except most complaints so far have been the opposite, if I understand you right, that the tape doesn’t release and things get jammed. See H2D AMS 2 Pro gets wedged if end of filament fails to detach from spool or Tape at the end of spool as a couple examples.

So in your cases the tape did release but maybe not easily enough and that caused the printer to think there’s a jam, so it tried to roll the tape back?

I’ve only used the auto-switchover twice so far and just babysat it both times to snip the filament just before the tape once it’s on the last loop or so. It worked smoothly with that intervention, but yea, not very “auto.”

Cheers,
