P2S Owners Deserve an Upgrade Path to the X2D

I’m putting this out there because I know I’m not the only one thinking it.

A lot of us bought the P2S expecting it to be the next solid step in the P‑series lineup. It wasn’t cheap, and many of us jumped in early because we trusted Bambu’s direction. But now that the X2D is out, it honestly feels like the P2S got leap‑frogged way faster than anyone expected.

The X2D isn’t just a small upgrade — it’s a completely different tier:

  • dual‑nozzle system

  • active chamber heating

  • better performance with engineering materials

  • more advanced calibration and sensing

  • overall more capable for the same types of prints many of us bought the P2S for

So here’s the point:

It would be fair for Bambu Lab to offer P2S owners a free upgrade or trade‑in to the X2D.

Not because the P2S is bad — it’s not.
But because the jump in capability is huge, and the timing makes it feel like the P2S was a short‑lived stopgap.

A free upgrade, or at least a no‑cost trade‑in, would go a long way toward showing that Bambu stands behind early adopters and doesn’t leave customers feeling like they bought the “in‑between” model.

I’m curious how other P2S owners feel about this.
Would you take a free X2D upgrade if Bambu offered it?

I constantly hold @BambuLab to the flame for everything they screw up.

This is not one of them.

P2S Owners Deserve an Upgrade Path to the X2D

No, no they don’t.

You agreed to purchase a new printer and BL agreed to sell it.

While 3D printers are sold to as appliances (which they are not), we know (or should have known) that is the offer.

I bought an A1 mini at launch and was disappointed they very quickly launched the A1, £100 more for a far larger print volume.

If we buy at launch, we are early adopters. We (should) accept that the price is likely the highest it will ever be and new models will follow.

This is a better ask, unlikely though.

Can P2S Owners have an Upgrade Path to the X2D?

But the x2d was released right after the p2s and it is only $100 more. If you had a p2s you would know what I mean.

I had the A1 mini and the A1 came out less than a month later.

I have spent most of my adult life being an early adopter and experience this all the time.

I owned an IDEX printer long before BL existed, I wasn’t annoyed the AMS came around, which was better in some ways and worse in others. A different example of the sane general situation.

It sucks, I get it. But, ‘deserves’ is extreme. If you were lied to, then maybe, but they never said they wouldn’t or that there would be a timeframe acceptable to you.

The A1 mini to A1 story illustrates they have done it before and were likely to do it again.

My thought process is this, you bought a printer that made sense when offered. You could have waited for the next one, and then the next one, and then the next one. When would you have bought one?

You can’t print with one you have yet to grab for fear you will have a better deal coming along.

If I still had packaging materials I’d offer to trade my x2d for your p2s but I dont think that I can repack this in a way that Fedex won’t destroy. Greener pastures are influencing you a bit IMO, it’s not a panacea, nor is it fully-baked in software/firmware yet. That aux nozzle is a constant frictional frustration, every time you want to use it. Messy on the bed, bifurcated settings menus, lots of fiddling. The chamber fan/ventilation strategy can’t even be discretely controlled yet!

I own 3.

There was a 7 month difference in releases. I do not consider that right after.

Would you have been more happy if they waited until October? Make it a full year.

If you needed the features of the X2D you would have bought an H2 series machine instead of a P series.

The main thing (and the reason I bought them) was for high temp stuff. If you bought a P2S, you weren’t the “target” audience of this printer to begin with IMO.

I doubt the X2D does anything better with the filaments you use in your P2S. In fact, your P2S probably does 10 fold better with the hobbyist filaments as the cooling setup in the X2D has a lot of quirks (from what I’m reading). I’m sure they will get worked out eventually. But since I don’t use cooling for anything, I don’t see that issue.

To add to OP’s original list:

X2D screen is higher resolution AND with brightness control

X2D comes with a spare hotend in the toolbox, so with the extra attached to the aux, that’s 40 bucks of extra hotends!

X2D has finer toothed belts.

Just sell the P2S (maybe keep the AMS) and get an X2D - it’s pretty good. I did. And the guy who bought my P2S got a great deal because it was fairly new but cheaper than new - win win.

Why does the screen being a higher resolution matter? you’re not using it to watch movies on lol

Some people like nice stuff, some people prefer the feeling of saving money. It’s not for everyone.

I would rather have the P2S than the X2D.

Side by side. I would have never noticed.

Some people don’t notice the protective film either, there is no pull tab on it.

Your expectation has been met. P2S is a solid step in the P series lineup and have received many praises, even on this forum that is mainly used for posting problems. The X2D you are comparing to belongs to the X series, which is a higher tier than the P.

Yeah, I agree @Mr_Filament , the launch of the p2s feels a bit like clickbait. I bought it the week it launched thinking “this is going to have an upgrade, since the last launches were H2D-H2S-H2C.

If I’d known they were going to launch a completely different series (X2D-(possible X2C), Inwould have waited.

The thing that shocked me the most was when I saw the inside of the X2D. It is ALMOST identical (aesthetically) to the inside of the p2s. (Yeah, with stronger and more potent heating, double nozzle, but same physical look)

In my case, i mostly print in pla, petg, tpu and rarely asa and Pa. All i ask for is a change for double nozzle. In my case i don’t need better heating, i find the one of the p2s enough.

So @BambuLab , @SupportAssistant , @SupportAssistentDE , @SupportAssistantCN , @MakerWorld , please read this and see what you can do.

I don’t see that completely necessary. I would be willing to pay 50-100€ for the upgrade.

Yeah it wouldn’t be that cheap of an upgrade, the heating would be required as you would have to convert the machine fully for it to pass all the boot tests

So looking at the spare parts costs (and these are in GBP not USD)

  • Heater: £60.99
  • XY Belt: £10.99
  • Purge Wiper: £13.99
  • Heatbed: £79.00
  • Aux Extruder: £37.99
  • AP Board: £132

And thats before the cost of the toolhead, which i might add, they no longer seem to list as a single part any more so you would need to figure out exactly what parts you needed for that

So the upgrade cost would end up being a substantial amount more than the price difference between the 2 machines and then you add on the several hours work in order to replace everything

While its in bambu’s financial interest to sell the upgrade kit, its 100% not in the users financial interest to buy it

When it comes to topics like this, what I never seem to understand is that one option is completely overlooked: selling the old device. Some people act as if their old device has suddenly become completely worthless.

I’ve been doing this for years with all kinds of devices, not just 3D printers. Have some people forgotten how to do that? Or are they underestimating just how valuable the old hardware still is? This is especially true in the context of P2S, which is still relatively new and in high demand.

Let me give you an example. I recently bought the latest top-of-the-range AV receiver for €600. That’s a lot of money, and I would never have bought it otherwise, but I sold my old one for €400, so in that sense it only cost me an extra €200. This applies to so many things, whether it’s a car, a graphics card or a 3D printer.

I can understand the frustration in some situations. However, in these kinds of topics, I usually see either laziness or a lack of knowledge about how to sell old equipment. Actually, in this context, it’s not even old.

It’s ironic that this question keeps coming up regarding Bambu and immediately demand “free” or “no‑cost trade‑in” again and again. Try asking Apple, Samsung or Sony the same question.

In addition to @Cypherous list, to make it an X2D, you certainly need to add the TH board (44), the filament buffer (27), the front head housing (23), right and left panel (80), aux extruder gear (13), toolhead carriage (27) plus a bunch of small parts (cutter lever, flow blocker, an additional nozzle, heater etc) for around 60. That’s if AC board, MC board etc are the same…

The total of spare parts will be close to 600 GBP (or about 10% more $ (before tax!) or Euro (after tax)) and if we take the price of the H2C spare parts needed for H2D to H2C conversion it was about 1400 GBP and the upgrade kit listed at 700 (50% off). By the same logic, if bambu was to offer an P2S to X2D upgrade kit, do not think it will be priced lower than 300 GBP or 350/400 (USD or EUR).

I swear I was the only one in the world that saw the P2S’s release and thought huh, we’re gonna be getting an X2 soon. I mean, the P2S looks awesome, it was giving the X1 those looks like, this is my turf now… boyyyyyy.

It was clear the X1 was out. Thinking about it realistically though, I felt it foretold the coming of the X2. Neither the H2 series or the P2 actually replaced what the X series was, and there was no indication that Bambu would want to retire the X line yet.

I’m going to assume you were already aware that both a P and X series exits, and the X series is the higher end one, right?

When you did your research prior to buying your P2S you should have discovered that it’s a very close to X1 levels of performance, and possibly even better. Right?

…so with that in mind, you’re telling us that you didn’t expect a new X would come out and that it would be both an improvement over the X1 AND the P2?? And now you’re mad about it?
