Point farming profiles

I looked at a popular model earlier today. The top profile was the creator. The second print profile was a 3rd party that had just scaled it down smaller. It didn’t have that message that the points were going to the model creator AND the profile description was a link to the other person’s makerworld saying “come check out my models!”… that just seems dirty to me.

That’s dirty i agree… but makerworld can’t do nothing now. They must be occupied with removing real and relevant models instead and that takes time

Edit: oh, and that also violates the guidelines. i would report

But if I, the designer, agree that they did put in effort (e.g. they hand “painted” a detailed statue for AMS), I can award them the points.

Makeronline = Makerworld but slightly worse

Oh, well I’m glad they pointed it out. :ox: :poop:

So I have a perfect example of what you’re talking about… I normally don’t put people on blast but considering this guy has done it 235 times I feel he deserves it. Here’s what I figured out:

  1. He uses the creators profile and makes a tiny modification (or says he does).
  2. He uses their own photo OR a photo from the “makes” section. He flips the picture left to right and photoshops a different background in to it.
  3. He picks the option that he gets the points.
  4. He links to his own profile in the print profile description AND an outside website.

Here’s an example of one of the pictures on a print profile he uploaded lol…

Notice Santa’s foot in both pictures.

Yeah, definitely the same person :joy: Same pink, same background, same un-plagarized image.

There should be a topic specific with all the gathered information about those accounts/fakes/errors/duplicates/etc.

I bet that in a few weeks makerworld was a little bit cleaner. One topic made a guy come here in the forum for the very first time and now people are more aware and even stopped supporting him through downloads. it somewhat worked. Maybe that would work for other people too…

i don’t know, it’s just a thought. All i know is that i read all the time “we are listening our community and we are working on it” and every day i see more and more of this junk.

You mean this guy?

LOL, yes, that’s him. Did his frustration cause him to use the “if you can’t beat em join em” strategy?

Many people are already going to the “dark side” since the ai crazyness started being applauded by many. People see a easy way of gaming the system and they just do it. Unfortunately

Can you really blame them though? :person_shrugging:

You might as well upload 10 Olafs to see which one will take off. Oh wait, someone already did that.

saw that already and already reported that account weeks ago. Still there and every day with more “content”. Go figure…

Oh, and all those Olaf’s… I checked some of the models. People are in for a treat

Yes.

I imagine others said the same that he read and took it as tacit permission.

With Bambu Lab seemingly actively ignoring seasoned reporters of issues like me and others here and bending over backwards to very obvious cases of rule breaking for reasons that should incompetence at best and collusion at worst reading the forum makes it clear to others that anything goes and if BL makes you their favoured son, you can mint it.

We shouldn’t further encourage this.

We should compile a shame list thread that actively avoids any side comments, jokes (me included), machinations, just the model link or profile link per comment.

As that grows longer, maybe, just maybe BL might feel the shame is too much.

Looking at a few of these and noticed not one mention of the model or how to print it inside the latest batch, it’s purely advertising their patreon. It’s about time mw just hits them up for advertising fees because the model isn’t the focus here.

The world needs more Malc’s. :+1:

I’ve thought about doing a list here but like you suggested it prob just get over ran with side comments and such. Plus I’ve reached the point many times where I jsut get burnt out on reporting and step away due to frustration. I mean why should I (we) care when MW itself doesn’t? :face_exhaling:

Because today they “steal” or use other peoples models but tomorrow it can be your model and you will be here, fighting for it, begging for a resolution and having nothing in exchange. And yes, it’s frustrating, i know more than anyone. Still fighting for a single report to go through since last week.
But if we don’t do it, it won’t be long until this platform will turn out just like any other that existed before.

I feel that so much has been accomplished by @BambuLab in such short time and yet, now that they have the users trust, they are starting to fade away in quality, that same trust and by not listening to their community. And that is how a platform starts dying. Just look how much it got worse since last month.

Me and Malc had the same thought. It’s a no brainer. It’s a matter of asking a mod to keep that topic “tight” and let the topic follow his own direction.

Some of those Olafs wouldn’t look out of place at Halloween.

I can certainly share in the frustrations. I use to knock some reporting out while browsing new uploads months ago but once the rejections started out numbering the reports I tossed in the towel with “what’s the use”

Heck I figured the tide had turned on bad actors once Bambu did the whole points nerfing back in the spring. But it seems to have only grown. My guess is the profits are way ahead if they can keep looking the other way with the current situation.

Yes, that is exactly what I did. I’m not shy about the fact that I am Chicagoan and take requests. I have no desire to waste filament to print a Tampa logo, but I enjoy 3D modeling and if someone would like their team’s logo made I’m happy to do it for them, completely free of charge. I just ask them to send me a picture so that I can upload and others can enjoy it.

Is that point farming? I don’t think so. Yes, I’m getting a ton of points, but honestly, its a trivial amount of money in gift cards when compared to my real job. There are plenty of other ways I could spend this time that would be much more profitable. I’m really only doing this because its fun, I’m decorating my walls, and I really enjoy seeing people appreciate my work. If you ask me, that’s the whole point of Maker World.
