Poll: Who wants LAN only mode for P1P and X1, and Bambu Studio?

There is another strong reason for a LAN option. [not only LAN or Cloud only] Band width! I am on a satellite with 50 GB a month. In 10 happy days of trying out the X1C-AMS I was out of Band with.
Got refreshed yesterday, turned on the X1C this AM. By 2 PM I was down to 89%. I normally before X1C could watch 10 or more movies online a month and be fairly active in all manner of internet communications and still have about 15% capacity by month end. at this rate I will have about 12 days a month of band width. There is a lot going on with this cloud. I started writing software in 1968 and have developed software and specialty databases for decades. Many with remote servers and some with clouds. None of them ate band width like this. None of my projects thus far exceed 100 Mb in transfer. So where is the load coming from?
When I cannot connect, I cannot use the X1C-AMS.

With your limitation on internet usage, Iā€™d use the existing (limited) LAN mode to transfer files to a microSD card and never use the video monitoring in Studio or Handy.

Video monitoring over the LAN is being beta tested for the next versions of Studio and X1C firmware.

I can live without the live monitoring for now. Hopefully there will be an option for that on local LAN later. So how do I set up the LAN. Do I have to Log off the current printer and log back on?

I tried to find a link showing you how to do it, but all I found were videos! That wonā€™t help your internet data usageā€¦

From the main screen of the X1C, tap the hex shaped setup icon, then select the network tab. Turn on LAN-only mode in the upper right. Copy the access code, you may need it.

The Studio device page will probably show ā€œNo Printerā€. Click the drop down and you should be able to see your printer name followed by (LAN). Just select it. Studio should then be able to control the printer, without the video (for now). The Handy phone app will not be able to see the printer at all.

You may encounter some other prompt asking for the access code. This is the first time I tried to use Studio in LAN-only mode, and it did not ask for the code.

I have experimented with using WinSCP for FTP file transfers to the microSD card. That did require entering ā€œbblpā€ as username and the access code as a password:

Hope this helps preserve your bandwidth.

Thanks! That is most helpful. I have an iMac but several FTP softwares that I already use. BTW, just transmitting 2 files this AM has me down to 83% of band width. The sooner the better.

Why in the heck would they not create this thing like a normal printer? Like a Dell, HP, Canon paper printer. Send the file straight to it on home network and it prints. Everyone and there family is still buying these things though even with this cut out as a feature of any normal printer anywhere when connected either by USB or Ethernet. For this price it should have USB and Ethernet. What if I just want Bambu Studio on an isolated laptop right next to the printer? USB! What if I just want to run Bambu Studio on my home PC and have the printer out in the garage? Ethernet! Why on earth would they not include USB and Ethernet. I donā€™t get it. Itā€™s not saving money. Doesnā€™t cost hardly anything to add those components for millions of machines. I mean Cā€™mon man.

You have wifi and can run them in LAN-only mode. I agree that an ethernet port would be nice, but I guess thatā€™s reserved for the X1E, at least for now. If you want USB, itā€™s not the right printer for you. Feel free to grab a Prusa, Voron, or whatever else fits your needs. The thing with hosting the print from your computer is that whatever happens on that system could impact your experience.
You can use the SD card to transfer your prints to the printer, use either Bambu Studio with your printer in LAN-only mode, or even use FTP & MQTT to upload and start your builds locally.

That LAN mode is not 100% supported seems to imply a Bamboo Lab management ā€œcontrolā€ issue. There is absolutely no sound reason that LAN is not fully supported. In fact the printer should fully function connected to either LAN or Wifi without any difference in capability. SMOP! Simply a Matter Of Programming. Bamboo Lab has a terrific 3D printer product and why LAN is not fully supported escapes me.

Wanting one and getting one, there are (at least in what regards BL) two damn different thingsā€¦ One could dream and wish, all day long, for BL to come up with better and innovative things, with real improvements to the existing printers. If that doesnā€™t fit in BL business planning or intentions, good luck with getting to see your wish come trueā€¦ Some might even say that one has better chances to win the lottery than getting things done by BLā€¦ but then again, perhaps BL could prove me wrongā€¦ Who knows?
