I have my X1CC connected to a power strip that I can control through home automation. I use it, rather than the power switch on the X1, to cycle power. The power switch is always on. Is there any downside to the printer from powering it on/off externally?
I’m doing the same (with a Shelly plug + Alexa) and to be honest i don’t see how it could be different compared to manually turning off the printer with the power-button on the back.
I’m using that one :

(Alexa had quite some trouble to recognize the “Bambu/Bamboo” term, so i had to rename it to “X1” …)
I have my printer plugged into a Wyze smart plug because it is a pain to reach that switch on my printer. No issues. Works great. No different than a power outage! In fact makes it easy to simulate a power outage. So have at it.
Thanks to both of you. I won’t worry about it any longer.
Yes, it is definitely no worse than a power outage. I wondered whether the physical switch had a “soft-off” function so that the system could shut itself down in an orderly fashion in the same way you’d shutdown a raspberry pi rather than pulling the plug. It sounds like the answer is no - flipping the switch is a hard power off.
this is exactly the same that the power button does
it just cuts the power to the power supply
So if you use a external switch or the build in switch , the function is exactly the same ( break the circuit )
i guess you are confusing it with a pc for example, where the power button starts a power down cyclus instead just cutting the power ( unless you flip the switch on your power supply , then it is also instant down )
so the answer to your question
yes it is safe to use , it will not do any harm
just be sure that you do it only when the printer is not printing or performing any action as that can cause firmware/sd corruption ( like with everything )
There is 1 thing to keep in mind; make sure your hotend is cooled enough before switching off.
Since the power cuts, it also cuts the cooling fan, which can create a heat creep.
Not sure how much of an issue it is on the X1, but i’ve had it occurring on my Ender.
Thank you. Yes, I am careful about this with all my printers.
