Print the Shape of Light – PLA Translucent Now Available

Vibrant Colors Meet Hand-Blown Texture
Bambu PLA Translucent offers a stunning range of frosted tones that add both subtle elegance and bold vibrancy to your prints. Its unique matte finish mimics the look of hand-blown frosted glass, making it ideal for crafting light shades, vases, and stained glass decor.

A great balance between translucency and durability
Bambu PLA Translucent strikes the perfect balance between visual translucency and everyday durability. It offers greater impact and aging resistance compared to generic translucent PLA, ensuring your prints last longer and perform better over time.

Exploring the Finish: Bambu PLA vs. PETG Translucent
PLA Translucent features a frosted glass texture that diffuses light well, while PETG Translucent is more see-through with a crystal-clear finish.

They look gorgeus!
It’s not easy to find a complete translucent color range.
Those filaments are a very good choice for my “Fruit collection” earrings like this one:

I think it would be perfect to make sun catchers to hang in the window. You could really replicate the stained glass look.

Who are you calling a pain in the glass?

What about a vase that is designed in MakerLab? that would look really good in PLA translucent.

Adding to my order this week, I’ve been looking for something translucent in yellow.

Why is there no clear color like with PETG Translucent?

Yeah, I’m awake now. Don’t mind me

Already ordered it yesterday to test it
Got me the five spools from the bottom row with the more vibrant colors

I’ve been wondering for a long time why they didn’t have this, so nice to see it, but a little disappointed there is not a normal clear (no color tint). I have a big pellet extruder and the standard material we use for that is a neutral, clear PLA pellet, so seems like it wouldn’t be a big leap to have that filament.

So far I bought Red and Teal, imo the nicest filament Bambu have made, tomorrow the other 8 will arrive.

Don’t keep us in suspense… who gets that sweet, sweet free filament?

I want to see a no-color (clear) translucent. I have a color-changing lamp that is a bit too bright and I would like to add a shade using the translucent without any color tint so the original colors won’t be affected.

May I ask whats speaking against the already existing PETG version?

The PETG translucent is more see-through. The following is from the BL website:

“Appearance: PLA Translucent has a frosted glass texture that diffuses light well, while PETG Translucent is more see-through with a crystal-clear finish.”

Where do I submit a bug report? I bought Orange PLA translucent and the ams sees it as PETG! So I can’t even use it really. In order to use it I have to turn off the ams rfid updating and select Bambu translucent pla.

Do you happen to know which firmware version your AMS has?

BS → Device → Update screen

I have not upgraded the firmware for my P1S devices because there have been too many reports of issues. I will wait.

My AMS units do recognise the PLA Translucent filaments.

I have the Teal, Orange, Red, Purple and Blue - all recognised.

They are great-looking filaments as well.

Ok @BambuLab, you drive a hard bargain. In my attempt to get a free roll of filament I purchased 8 rolls of filament and made these:

I really like it and have plans for a few more of these.

I designed this family of Ratchet Fidget Ratchets and I tried to use as much of the new PLA Translucent as possible.

I only like the strong colours, the others look too weak.

I have since rounded out the collection of strong PLA Translucent range with the Teal.

I really would like additional strong colours:

  • Yellow
  • Green
  • Clear (annoying I need a third-party filament for this)

I really like them, a few of the new additions have really been great.

  • BL PLA Bright Green
  • BL PLA Indigo Purple
  • BL PLA Sunflower Yellow

These are all great additions.
