I recently got the ams in the sale along with 4 rolls of filament which were the refill option.
Every rolled has jammed at some staged , not a tangle or knot but slipping down the left hand sand of the roll and wedging in there.
Is there anything to stop this ? or was i just unlucky with 4 badly rolled refills ?
Any tips please
Welcome to the forum.
Are you using Bambu spools? If you are, when you assemble them, do they “click” together?
Here is a really good post about using refills and some tips and tricks.
yes im using the spools that came with the ams, they click together and the little notch is aligned.
Will read that thanks.
I have 50+ Bambu PLA Basic Jade Whites that have had no issues over the last six months; however, the last batch of 10 were a noticeably different white and was poorly spun. It would jam, and it was taped down instead of running through the holes at the end causing the tape to get sucked into the AMS, making me have to manually fix the issue, and reload a spool (making the AMS virtually useless).
I did notify Bambu, and they had me send the first batch of 10 rolls back; however, with the new batch, five out of five rolls (so far) have been taped poorly and have jammed at some point in the printing.
Super unfortunate since I have had such great luck. I know I could re-spin the filament; however, the color difference and poorer print quality with weird layer lines leads me to believe it’s more than just a poor spinning job, and that they changed vendors dramatically for the worst.
Yeah, I’ve had a roll or two like that. Not much to do other than pull it out a bit, rewind it. Usually it’ll sort itself out.
Thanks for the replies all, will keep an eye on them in future, for now i just use them when im around the printer
I just got my first 3d printer a month ago (Bambu Labs A1) and am now starting to use refills. So far most have gone perfect, today i had to replace 2 rolls. One Bambu PLA Black and it was really hard to put on and line up. The cardboard spool was so tight and then it took me a long time to get it locked. The filament almost came off the roll trying to push it on it was so tight then I couldn’t rotate it to line it up and didn’t know if it was in the notch. I was so discouraged I was seriously thinking of never buying another refill. Then 30 minutes later I had to replace the PLA Silver and that one slid on perfectly and was loose and took less than 5 seconds to line up and lock in. I don’t get it. I never want another one like that black. I have 2 more PLA Black refills saved, I dread having to change that one again.
I’ve had problems with two refills in a row now. The black refill cardboard tube was mushroomed out on both sides that it was almost impossible to get it on the spool. I had to take a razor blade to the inside edges and shave off the bulged-out cardboard.
Now I’m having a problem with a silver refill. After every print the AMS rewinds the filament (of course it does) and when I start the next print job (same color) it quickly gets the filament jammed between the roll and the spool. I have to babysit the start of every print to ensure that the filament doesn’t get wedged in. This is two for two on problematic refills.
