Questions regarding MakerWorld points

Some people create a queue to print later.

Others print many small things and so have the time to print many quickly.

One person printed most of my App Icon coasters, each around an hour, and tried to get through them quickly, a dozen a day.

Different strokes for different folks.

Personally I will add models to a “collection” that I like when browsing MakerWorld. Yes I’ve been burned by this as some models are taken down but on the flip side, if I do end up printing it, I get the latest and greatest version.

To each their own.

I don’t really see the problem with the 5 download limit. I personally feel it is better than Printables where the count resets every 30 days and the rewards are capped.

The 5 limit was calculated as a winner for BL, it doesn’t stop people downloading but does cap the reward points. I still think its poorly implemented as its the top ranking models which will get those first 5. It isn’t a major worry in my case as my figures will always be bleh, interestingly even at my level I saw a flat line on my chart.

Perhaps the first or second time a user visits but once a user downloads the top models I would theorize that they will move on to lesser downloaded models on subsequent visits. I would think a model usually only gets downloaded once by a user and then reprinted if needed. They aren’t downloading the same top 5 models ever day over and over again.

This is true, but I’d anticipate it’d split that group to the ones that only “shop” the top 100 and those who drift to the practical prints.

The top models aren’t the same everyday.

It’s really different to give rewards on models depending on monthly stats. And tweaking/caping the stats to give less rewards to models.

The first system allows a faire/accurate representation of the popularity of a model. When the second, will never be accurate and will always favorites already popular models over all of the others. And you can’t have a relevant search result with non accurate data. That’s a bit of a shame when this is the most important feature of your website.

I think this is very subjective. It might be the most important feature for you but I have a feeling that the general user doesn’t really care about the data.

Lol the most important feature is not the data is the search tool !

Your math is off. You need many more cards. I have 3200 points and not even close. Fixing to upload some things I’ve drawn.

I make several STLs and they used to bring in a higher amount of points, I don’t mind the new system (that nets me 50% fewer points than before) but the vague way to receive boosts is or how to get boosts to give is a huge negative to me. My prints are more detailed and harder to print so I get fewer downloads. If you can’t go back to more of a structure as what is was then I would want more clarity on how the boosts work.

During a 7 day period, you need to print 2 models over 1h print time if you have a bbl printer. Otherwise you need to comment and or create/publish stuff. But in that case the threshold has not been communicated by bbl.

But they are aware it’s not perfect, there are looking for ways to improve the system.

The current system is really nice and I think that boosts are a great way to reward the niche and complex models. There might be the issue that people are not using boosts correctly but honestly you have the data and can probably tell better than us if the boosts are going to niche models or the main stream

I’ve published lots of things and have commented a fair amount. Still no boosts awarded to me. (Other than the ones I received for having printers)

I would assume the boosts are going to the models that the end users find the most value in.

My maths is correct:

535pts = 1 gift card = £35

Multiply everything by 10

5,350pts = 10 gift cards = £350

A1 = £369

Ok so you actually need 10.54 gift cards in UK.

US store: 10x $40 gift cards = $400 and the A1 = $399 (you might need an 11th card to cover tax)

I originally said you need about 10 gift cards depending on region, so which part of my maths is wrong if you need “many more” gift cards then 10?

After tax and shipping, you will need 15.87 gift cards or 7,998.48 points to get an A1 combo completely free in Canada.

Gift cards are 504 points for $55.

$872.85 / $55 = 15.87 gift cards

15.87 x 504 = 7,998.48 points needed

Yeah but his talking about the A1 not the combo.

Ah, in that case it’s $637.10 after tax and shipping.

$637.10 / $55 = 11.5836 gift cards

11.5836 x 504 = 5,838.13 points needed

EDIT: But if you’re just looking to enter the Bambu fray, an A1 mini by itself can be had for $401.35 after tax and shipping.

$401.35 / $55 = 7.2972 gift cards

7.2972 x 504 = 3,677.7888 points needed

Again, this is Canada.

It’s basically the same here une Belgium
A1 mini = 7 gift cards = 3668 points
A1 mini combo or A1 = 11 gift cards = 5765 points
A1 combo = 15.5 gift cards = 8122 points
Give or take ^^

Edit : my points conversion was way off XD

I would suggest reconsidering the significant point reductions for the 500+ and 1000+ download thresholds. For creators who invest substantial effort into developing complex models and only release a new model monthly, this reduction can be particularly challenging. The current system tends to incentivize the publication of numerous lower-quality models rather than a few high-quality ones that require more time and effort to produce.
