Gift card need to stay like many people have said in comment if they don’t stay i will no longer take time and filament to uploads/rate models because it refund the filament it cost to make the 3d models and the fact its generous make that filament cost is not a problem, I don’t hesitate to make multiples prototypes. I find the current system really good, but there are too many useless print profile.
Printables rewards system is a scam so i no longer uploads on their site. To have 1 filament its pretty hard and shipping is soo expensive 20$ per item. Don’t take inspiration from them or anything prusa.
Yes, but how change this ? Users upvote the most easy thing, cause it’s easy to print, and don’t care about originality, about poor copy (remix) .
yes definitly
I think there are two global categories of makers : the first, who’s post easy thing, uslless, with no real work behind (poor remix, or easy fing made with software like Luban3D)
And a second, who have more work in design, or in originality, or in functionality, using advanced software for making objects (for many hours) and have test several version before post here.
We need to find a way for users who’s near the second categorie have more benefit, and less for people who’s near the first categorie, if you see what i mean
Added my idea for premium models here: Feature-Request "Creator Points-Shop" and Makerworld monetization
If someone isn’t getting downloads or prints it’s most likely because their model is undesirable rather than the user views it as more sophisticated or complex. The simple fact is that people will download useful models most often. If a less complex model solves a problem better than a more complex model or vise versa the end users should provide that metric. Also, it seems that there are already mechanisms to drive more users to noteworthy models such as Featured Models and Contests.
If these questions are circling around what to do about spam uploaders that are merely point farming for 10 downloads here and there from their subpar or often ripped/re-shared models from other designers and websites then I think there can be one easy solution to help cut down on most of that and that is the addition of a (shared) selection tab when uploading. Instead of clicking original or remix which many people simply sharing a model that may be licensed as shareable is often overlooked even though being posted as original or a “remix” yet its not really remixed at all leads people to just mass uploading “remixed”(ripped) models from other designers.
If you had a shared model option where if you enjoy a model and want to share it, but it isn’t on Makerworld yet or the designer isn’t on there either then you select share option and people can download and print that model all they want but the difference is you wont get points for it. This will cut down a lot of people simply posting “remixed” models that they didn’t change anything about and are just posting a model for point farming. If you’re a genuine member of the community and good intention in sharing a sharable model and you’re fine not getting points for something that isn’t yours to begin with then I think it will help a lot for spam uploaders once they realize they cant get points and any “remixed” models they haven’t remixed can be easily removed and points taken via the report option would be great. Perhaps if and when the original designer makes a Makerworld account they could search makerworld for their models and any that were shared by others could then be claimed by the designer and points awarded to them. To safeguard against people making fake account posing as original designers of popular shared models the link to the original designers page would have to include a link in their page bio to their makerworld account similar to how printables keeps thingiverse files from being stolen. Anyway that’s my 2 cents on helping clean up makerworld of some unpleasantries and ill willed point farmers. Help the true designers of makerworld shine regardless of their niche models as long as they are original and true.
It would be good to see the points system based on the ratio between downloads and likes. If a user has downloaded a model and taken the time to give it a 5 star rating, then to them at least, it’s a great model. The creator should be rewarded with points in that instance. Points could be tiered based on the star rating and whether a review and pic has been left.
I believe downloads alone are not a fair reflection on the quality or popularity of a model and can be misleading. Downloads mean the concept is engaging and you’ve done a good job with the pictures. Likes mean it prints well and you’ve met expectations. You shouldn’t be able to like a model until you’ve printed it.
yes I think that niche products get less point and i think for designs like that there should be point given every time someone views or opens the design in makerworld
Not replying to annything but how manny points do you get per download I want to get a bind of gift cards to help me with the cost of a a1 because I can’t get a job and I am dying to get the a1
The harsh reality is you’ll need a job. Points are much harder to come by and unless you own an established models of models or can produce great models it’s probably easier to get that job.
That’s the problem I can’t get a job I have only just got into high school and my parents won’t let me get one this summer so this is my only option
I think you’ll need to work on making models in that case, but I’ll be honest and tell you are competing against a dwindling pot of rewards here so your chances are slim to next to none in earning enough from here to get a printer. No free rides here
I know but it’s better to at least try to do something than just sit around I just posted my first model a k98k sniper for Lego mini figs hope it gets a proved
As the saying goes “there is only one way to eat an elephant: a bite at a time.”… Hope it goes well for you, remember to keep up the printed image at minimum and browse at how others are presenting their models in the Popular feed.
You can find the rules for earning points here:
https://makerworld.com/en/points
There’s a link near the top left corner. You can also click on the info icons (circle with an i inside) on this webpage for other ways.
I saw you could get points for adding personal data how do I do that
To buy an A1 you will need about 10 gift cards (depending on region)
10 gift cards is currently around 5,350 points (again, depends on region)
To get 5,350 points you will need either:
- 1 model with 20,000 downloads
- 9 models with 1,000 downloads
- 50 models with 75 downloads
- 300 models with 10 downloads
…or some combination of the above.
*figures include points for model and profile downloads only (no boosts)
It’s not easy unless you have some really great ideas for a few models which get super popular or are prepared to put in many many hours to churn out 100s of models that get a small amount of downloads. Just take a look at MW, I’d say the majority of designs uploaded barely reach the first point milestone.
And then of course you need the ability and skills to design models.
One big problem though (assuming you don’t have a 3D printer right now), you really need to be able to print your models and take photos before uploading here. If you just design and upload untested models without photos or profiles then they won’t be very popular and could even get taken down.
I don’t want to burst your bubble, but it’s a hard slog to get points and gift cards here since the changes.
Yes it’s way harder now. And you need to add actual prints pictures of your models now.
And I really encourage you to find a way to get a printer before making 3d models if they are ment to be 3d printed.
Not everything is 3d printable, there are some rules to follow that you need to learn by practicing and watching YouTube video (go watch Slant 3d. It’s a gold mine on how to optimise your 3d model for FDM printers).
If you’re too young to earn some money right now and you’re really really interested to get a 3d printer. I suggest you to convince your parents/family and make a deal with them. A don’t know maybe one big family gift for your birthday and Christmas combined (just an example).
Just try to get the cheapest one, the A1 mini without AMS. And for the filament don’t buy it at bambulab at first. Just try to get the cheapest for the quantity as you are on budget. Try to buy them in bulk, for example you can get 10 PLA spools (white, black, red , blue) from Elegoo for something around 100€.
Then make models and publish them on MakerWorld. You might make enough points to buy more fancy filament colours and materials. And/or buy some upgrade or spare parts for your printer : nozzles, a smooth build plate or even an AMS lite at some point.
But don’t count on the rewards system to get your printer at the first place. It will be super looooong if it works and super frustrating if it doesn’t.
You’ll need a lot more actual downloads than that, because after the fifth download of any kind a user makes, the downloads are flat out not counted anymore.
So in reality you could probably easily double or even triple those numbers, plus you need quite a bit of luck to make sure your models will be within the first five ones that a user downloads.
Realistically how many people download and print more than 5 models a day who aren’t doing so for nefarious reasons? The number must be pretty low. Maybe the “power users” but the general hobbyist probably isn’t.
Spot on. I think we are missing the forest for the trees. There would be a good percentage of the general public who download a batch every time they come here. Whether they print or not is irrelevant in this as the downloads are the first point grabbers for us. We’re talking about a popular model here for the sake of the argument. Most of us can’t avoid a bargain, its free, and there’s no shame in downloading.
