Why would you? It still generates income, even if you move on.
Well it came as no surprise for them to “adjust” the points system - however they colour it as combatting bots, helping true designers, yabba yabba.
Only thing I would like to see if that with halving at least the rewards earnt, that the validity of the vouchers is extended for longer - that way I can still!!! save for something noteworthy from the store rather than a couple of filaments
Just collect the vouchers when you need them, so you have unlimited validity?!
Makerworld arguably has the best reward structure which means you will be losing more money if you use another platform. Does this logic not ring true?
It’s almost like we should just…let them leave. Only a matter of time until they realize how good they have it with Makerworld and crawl back.
I think designing and sharing in general is a money loss adventure, but it’s not really about making money when you’re designing things to share on a site like this.
I could make more per a hour of actual money doing actual 3d work for clients. Even before, Bambu’s highest rate of return that could be got, was still lower than what a professional 3d artist could pull in.
I get to choose what I design though, and the only client moving the toilet is me. So. The value is in the freedom to do what I want, the joy of making actual things, the joy of sharing. I don’t know, it goes on. It’s an investment into my own happiness, is what it is. So it’s not a loss, regardless of Bambu’s current rewards.
I think you’re setting yourself up for a bad time if you come into it with the focus first of making points, getting boost, or whatever. This isn’t a money making platform. It’s a rewards system. It’s a nice bonus! But not a given.
Since MW is making such radical changes without warning, just wait until the voucher becomes two or maybe three times more expensive. In my opinion, if you have 524 points, immediately exchange them for a gift card.
That is so disappointing, there is this one designer that makes the most elaborate light boxes. Deserves more than 5… he will probably stop working so hard for us.
i mean the more i look the more mixed opinions i see. Now i dont think i disagree with anyone for those who are against it, maybe bambu lab can sink the price of the gift cards and kits
I’ve been waiting for the announcement that they’d be nerfing the reward system. I’ve been in a lull and haven’t been able to make much of anything recently due to work and personal life obligations, so it looks like all of my successful models will take a very steep nose dive in the new system. Such is life, I suppose. Makerworld still has the best reward system of any of the other site, though.
Not sure what a warning would change. It’s not like the users can do anything with that warning.
In the case of a gift card, it changes everything.
Well yes. I forgot about the gift cards being the context. Still had the overall credit system in my head.
They gave a warning over two weeks ago.

When Bambulab changed the points and introduced boosting, they knew what they were doing. They were just as aware as we were of the impact it would have. It was all discussed in the team, possibly with pros and cons. But it was clear, if you weren’t completely upside down, how the new boosts would work and who would primarily receive them. And a conscious decision was made in favour of this.
It doesn’t matter what Bambulab writes about what this is all about. Unless you want to believe in something. But as the saying goes? – If I want to believe in something, I go to church. But that’s not to deny Bambulab’s well-meaning intentions.
The fact is that designers who can provide the general public with appealing models on Makerworld are promoted. These are the ones who are valuable to Makerworld. That’s why designers are recommended and honoured with special predicates… That’s the way it should be.
The points are restricted across the board, which need not be of particular interest to the designers who are at the top anyway; they also receive compensation in the form of sufficient boosts. As there are now so many models on Makerworld, it would also be desirable to reward only the best.
However, there is collateral damage with such actions, quite a few designers will fall through the rewards grid set up by Bamulab. One more, the other less. But what can happen as a result: the models of these designers, who do not receive many rewards, may become fewer. What does this do to the mass of uploaded models: not much. Because the models of these designers are rather invisible. But invisible models are also a burden on the system.
However you look at it, these boosts are also an instrument of selection. Whether this was really intended or not.
Best regards!
To those that posed questions. I am looking at other options like patreon, printables, etc. I would likely keep the few popular models on makerworld but would migrate most designs to the new site so I have a good catalog. Dropping the “free” access here.
And makerworld is the first and only place I have uploaded to, so it is my baseline and what I compare against. Getting $100 from a patreon monthly for filament, etc is now better the $40-$80 I would get here and I would not limited tohigher cost filament.
And lastly, as expected the forum parrot has spoken…
Where do you see information, about the new mechanism for converting downloads into points?
Because I only see information about additional rewards for complex projects. Which has nothing to do with reality, because a boost can be given to anyone, even for an ordinary bare cube or cylinder.
After the rule change, a lot of people want to leave, but a lot of people are joining.
While one group of people feel that the return is not enough, another group of people may feel that the return is enough for them to stay here, everything is relative, there is no absolute good or bad.
Not to mention the people who don’t care about the return, but just like to create models.
If someone thinks another platform is better, why stop them?
I give my blessing and hope he gets what he wants
The following statement is not directed at anyone in particular, but rather a sentiment
I don’t think it’s helpful to see some of the people who participate in the discussion with offensive words.
Looking at the first few dozen models on the Trends page, the number of boosts received is still relatively high, similar to the trend of downloads, likes and featured models.
Most people are still in the habit of giving “tips” to people who find it beautiful, novel, fun, funny, etc. (when they don’t know who to give it to), rather than really complex and time-consuming work.
A simple design receives more boosts than a complex entry (as far as I can see), which doesn’t seem to fulfill the original purpose and overlaps a bit with the original function of the points system.
What is the best way to change this, MW needs to think about it!
The problem is that there is a big difference between someone downloading your models for free that you get a small perk for and someone directly paying 5-10$ monthly to support you. You need a pretty loyal following to transition to patreon and make it sustainable.
The problem with moving to Printables is that you are competing again a much bigger designer pool for a much lower reward. It is a bigger target audience but you really have to stand out.
If you read the context of the message it is easy to understand that change is coming…
This means that we will introduce a new mechanism…moving beyond simply point rewards.
