Reallocation of MakerWorld's points reward system

fusion personal license is still free

Really? I was denied long ago, started with Personal free license, I don’t recall the exact timeline because I believe they extended it by a few months. Maybe they didn’t like me using Fusion to make videos? I would have imagined that it would be the opposite.

The new points regulation is really a serious turning point. It’s no longer fun to design anything…

The fun of designing something hasn’t changed.

The points system seems to have changed but that shouldn’t relate to the enjoyment of the design process.

I think that advanced amateur designers have lost the motivation to create and therefore to improve in what they did.

I no longer will design anything that I do not need myself.

Before I would design stuff for MW just because I thought it was something cool and I would be repaid for my time and effort (and used plastic while fine tuning designs).
That is no longer feasible. Designing anything for MW is now a waste of my time.

And that is 100% okay. If your only motivation for designing was a small perk as a reward then you should most definitely stop. Find something that you really enjoy doing regardless of the returns. I can tell you from experience that this will be the most rewarding. There are a plethora of other hobbies out there. I enjoy helping people on this forum. I don’t do it for a reward, only the knowledge that I’ve helped someone.

Very well said. Bookmarking this so I can link to it in the future.

Yeah it’s free for 3 years or if you are making a profit using the software. I think after 3 years you can also apply for an extension but I haven’t gotten there yet.

My friend has been working on models for weeks, that he was going to post now, but decided not to post them at this time… when only likes are loaded and downloads have probably stopped counting.

You should just switch to Patreon. If your designs are good enough you will get subs and make more money than MW. If they aren’t then you were probably “overpaid” by MW rewards.

Nothing has changed, other than the latest actions that MW is taking to create a more balanced reward system. MW has forewarned that 1) earning will see a temporary drop ,and 2) there will be rapid adjustments in the coming months to make this new complex system work better. The new system will hopefully also force scammers to work harder and get less in return.

Personally I am surprised that MW didn’t take actions sooner. Letting scammers getting away with 25% of the reward is unsustainable. And like a society, having two polar opposites of rich and poor is not good and unsustainable. If it works, the new system will help create a “middle class” in MW, while supressing scamming activities to a more manageable level. It’s a win-win for every honest designer.

Could you elaborate on that concept and clarify your definition of “middle class” within this context?

Yup, I confirmed that the issue was that even though I only use Fusion for content creation, they deemed it to be Commercial use and revoked my personal license. It’s all good though, I’m a fan of the program and I don’t mind paying for it. Thanks for clarifying.

I’m shocked too, that’s why we are in this situation now.

@CopyKnight you are basically cheating, because all your models could be only one with different profiles instead dozen of the same model with only small changes. Regardless of any explanations or justifications, the fact remains that you are cheating and you know.

Are you suggesting that if @CopyKnight and others hadn’t released variations of the same model as separate entities, Makerworld wouldn’t have reduced their rewards? I’m not condoning their actions, but it’s important to note that spamming isn’t the same as scamming, and it certainly doesn’t constitute cheating. Makerworld’s continued incentivization of this behavior through their multiplier mechanism speaks volumes. The platform lacks a proper system for organizing variations of the same model, which can lead to misuse of print profiles and confusion with multiple build plates affecting project statistics. Additionally, splitting models like this diminishes visibility both in the short and long term, as the sorting algorithm sees individual models with fewer downloads, compared to a unified one with all downloads combined.

In my opinion, this does not make anyone easier. It saves you almost 50% in remuneration with the excuse of enhancing the most complex projects. I would have differentiated the projects by number of hours of printing or filament use and the multi plates.

Finally had my first day of ZERO points despite having a healthy amount of prints. Sigh. I hope these new rules get tweaked. I had so many ideas and plans for cool model packs but honestly, like a lot of others here, i’m feeling pretty demotivated now. It really sucks.

That may be true, but there are certainly measures that would almost completely eliminate fraud via downloads and the points earned from them. At least if there were no more points for downloads.
As soon as anything is introduced that enables points to be earned based on any user-generated numbers or by users awarding points directly, there will always be abuse. I think that if you award points based on such actions, you should be able and willing to take responsibility for it. In this case, Bambulab and Makerworld are solely responsible and they have to fight the abuse themselves. As users, we can help by submitting reports, but the risk of fraud is the sole responsibility of Bambulab with Makerworld. What has happened now is that all users have been taken into clan custody. That’s why there’s so much outrage about it.

People are angry about:

  • The reduction of points
  • The shadowban applied to the accounts, not counting from X downloads.

This has caused that while you used to get a decent amount of points per day, now you get absolutely NOTHING.

What will happen?

MW will start to NOT HAVE multi-color designs, of which they are the only and main beneficiaries. At this point MW is still light years ahead of Printables and Thingiverse, except for Multi-Color designs that ONLY work for their printers.

With this action, the only thing they are going to achieve is the total and absolute collapse of MW as a platform. For my part, I will not upload any more designs here. I have created more than 40 Anime designs and I don’t plan to create more.

In the end, they are the executioners of their own platform.

If They change their mind, will be only when they see there is no new uploads from all the MW User Base.
