MW was always the best site to upload because of the reward you get and also the satisfaction of watching you model grow to help many people. i was always happy to upload here because i knew soon i would get free filament that i could use to develop more models. for exampel i uploaded some mask designs and each one costs around 150 to 200 grams of filament. now i find it harder to upload my modles which cost more filament. But i am still a big fan of makerworld. i really appreciate this site.
You are not alone. What you describe basically applies to me and to many other designers.
Concentrate on creating models and selling them. Yes, it’s nice that Makerworld had awarded points to redeem. But I think that once you have a successful sales channel on the Internet, you will have a lot more of them. Other users have also been pursuing strategies other than simply chasing points at Makerworld for some time, for example by making a lower-quality model available on Makerworld that they offer for sale elsewhere in a better quality. Such strategies often come in different forms, look at other modelling sites to sharpen the inventive mind for other avenues you can pursue.
Good luck and best regards!
All this is not normal, I would say that something is not working
Without further context, that chart would seem like a normal drop when a model passes the 7 day trending window. Can you elaborate?
I have 4 left… I don’t print other designers models very if at all often. I’ve awarded the few so far to designers that are truly talented that I can noticeably see that their models had taken time to create.
This is the other fun fact of such a great innovative reward system. What happens when the boosts expire? simply wasted points from the “MakerWorld” point bank?..
Great System!
That’s normal. The trending chart on the website has a 7 day filter. Once your model is past that window the visibility drops to allow other models to get noticed.
The model you show drops right at day 8 as expected
Most accounts won’t receive any boost to give, because of not “enough activity”. Many other people just want to print stuff and don’t even care about rewarding models. Many accounts won’t even ever know what a boost is, because they don’t care about reading the update message. Many other accounts open makerworld once in a while. And most people will give boosts to popular designs, or friends. And statistically it’s just natural. And blaming those is just stupid.
The only one to blame is BambuLab. They used the excuse of “reallocating some budget” but they perfectly knew that this was all about reducing the total reward system budget. And we can all see it with our eyes, looking at our analytics and at the analytics posted by many users in this forum.
Transparency was key, they could have said “we are reducing the budget, but also giving you the boost system” and people wouldn’t have been discussing, because everyone understands that it was just unavoidable.
But fooling around with the makers and the designers that helped the growth of your website is just awful.
Exactly, useless work and effort from Bambulab to introduce Boost tokens… no one has incentive to award tokens. The average user has nothing to gain from this. If he himself got a reward for donating tokens, the situation could at least improve a bit.
still not a lot of points this week again… barely 170 points in a week… when I used to get 500 to 1000 per day…
Just uploaded a couple of my models on cults3d as I want real money for my models now and wish to win at least 1 contest with my models
You can move the models here and there to see how things are going elsewhere. Why not?
Just to give my opinion: whatever the system, there will always be disappointed people, and always profiteers (see crooks)
Personally, I don’t share for money, but for the spirit of sharing. It remains gratifying to see people satisfied with my little creations.
However, I admit that when I see poor quality creations having so much success, it annoys me, but it is also the users who cause this. And the worst part is of course the profiteers, who are only there to get money from bambu lab (I hate them)
Funny thing, or detailing, in my creations, it is not the ones which required the most effort which are the most successful, sometimes, the fact of having an original idea helps more than the work provided
It’s life, nothing is fair, but like me, remember to have a good time, and share your knowledge.
And make a picture book shop window, no matter what the print looks like in reality, the main thing is that it looks pleasing and is beautifully colourful. No matter what you create, you have to consider how it looks when presenting it.
How is this helping new models when you halved the rewards for the first 50 downloads compared to before?
I dont see this issue with fake accounts on cults tho as they only hand out the money after 30 days so they do a review on your models before you actually post something there that has been stolen off someone. but yeah sure there are some pro and cons on every website. Im not sure its better yet but I figure I need to give it a try and meaby try to do some makes and sell them elsewhere also
I’m shocked that they didn’t flag these as spam and pull them down. Wasn’t there a big push on stopping spam of low quality models recently? Certainly a different logo is not enough variation to require that many postings.
Remember how with the last change everybody lost points but MakerWorld teased that the new system would make up for it? This change they haven’t even responded.
Something really did change during this under the hood. I hope its a bug.
My models usually gets more prints and downloads than likes. But now its the other way around!
For a model that’s front page and trending i see this:
Im used with something more like this:
Either you guys started liking and stopped downloading. OR, more likely the downloads don’t count correctly.
As i wrote, I hope its a bug.
Yeah, there is no point anymore for me to design anything for Makerworld…
All my metrics stayed equal, except points reward.
Points dried up instantly under the new system…
I have a feeling that the 3d view of models used to count as downloads in the metrics. (since the http request is actually a DL) then they realized it and corrected that which stinks for all of us.
I wanted to wait for a few days to see how it looked, and sadly it doesn’t look like there is enough incentive to invite people to use this platform over any other. Maybe there will be some correction to their points system again, however I had a feeling that this was coming. It’s not dissimilar to what Fusion did to get people hooked on their software and then start charging for it. It is their platform, they can do as they please with it. Speaking from my perspective, I don’t see much of any added value in posting here vs any other site, and if you have a good model that adds value, it might be worth posting on a site for sale or posting on Patreon instead. The good thing is that it looked like MW was going to run away with it, I don’t see that happening anymore, and competition is good and should be encouraged to promote innovation and to keep prices reasonable.
