Without a doubt. That’s exactly what already happens in some groups I’m in. And that’s not surprising at all I think.

You can receive as many boosts as users are willing to give you. (To convert to Credits)

You can earn up to 1 per week to give away to some other user.

I do. Because I think thats the main reason for the captcha.

Only something makerworld can answer.

I think they will still count.

Don’t jump to any conclusions.

Before anything else, I would like to thank Bambulab for the growth opportunity it is giving me and the people who support me by sending me a lot of virtual affection on a daily basis. Thank you

However, I don’t quite understand the mechanism behind the boost system.

Let me explain:
I received some boosts today and I thought about converting them BUT to convert them I have to spend 11 coins.
Let’s do the math: with 524 coins I can redeem a gift card of 40 euros/dollars, so doing a simple calculation I understand that each coin is worth approximately 0.076 euros.
To redeem 1 euro/dollar, the system requires me to spend 11 coins, which at the exchange rate is 0.83 euros/dollars.
So, when I receive a boost (a tip from a user) it would technically be 0.17 euros/dollars?

Maybe I’m wrong about something. Could you explain it to me?

Thank you

You will receive 11 coins per boost.

Well deserved boost; The planters are quality

I think it means you just get 11 points for a boost in exchange for the boost itself; for me it shows 22 with 2 boosts:

Thanks for the explanation! :upside_down_face: I didn’t understand anything (as usual :smiling_face_with_tear: )

And thank you for the compliment, I appreciate it very much!

They have been updated, iOS ones at least, grab from the App Store.

Just to provide some initial data, take it as you will:
Received 10 boosts since the change, 8 of them were given to my models over 1k download.

Edit: didn’t meant to reply just to a specific user, or sure how that happened….

I am relatively new to the hobby (started in October), but I have been so thankful for Makerworld’s point system. I would be uploading regardless, but it drives me to learn fusion360 and gives me extra incentive to make new models. I knew that the rewards would inevitably be slashed and I am not mad about it one bit. Many people forget this website is in BETA - nothing is set in stone.

The rewards are still more than generous and the boost system is something that users DID ask for. There is a thread a while back where people discussed gifting their own points to other users, can’t find it atm.

I’m one of those terrible, awful, and evil creators that goes for quantity. I make lightboxes, because I know how to, and I haven’t yet learned how to make anything fancier or more complex. That’s not to say I don’t value quality — everything I upload I test to confirm it prints well. But I’ve become exceedingly efficient at creating them, and have uploaded more than 400 of them to MakerWorld. This change will substantially reduce the number of points I receive.

As a contributor to the platform, this change makes me feel less valued as a creator, and that what I upload isn’t worth as much as a model that goes viral or becomes trendy. I don’t have a model that’s exceeded 1,000 downloads — I’d wager most creators don’t. My most popular lightboxes have a few hundred downloads, but most of the rest have less than 100. All of my ratings have been 4-5 stars, so those that download them have enjoyed them, but I fully realize that lightboxes are a niche.

In other words, with the previous reward system, even though I do not have a viral or trendy model, I would still receive sufficient rewards that it made me feel like a valued and contributing creator. That’s no longer the case.

It does make me question whether I want to continue spending the time creating the designs, and using the filament needed to make the test prints that MW requires. If the points I receive are no longer sufficient to replace the filament used for test prints, I will be operating at a loss.

As for the boosts, those are only going to be used on popular models, and will not do anything to help the less popular models but no less deserving creators. They’ve been around for less than 24 hours, and that’s already what’s happening.

It’s in the nature that “cool” stuff will be voted more frequently as “useful” stuff. So yes, I see it like you, this system benefits cool and trendy things more, as this drives people. We’ll see how this evolves, but I doubt that it will not be like this.

It ultimately boils down to weighing your opportunity costs. If you find yourself with ample spare time and derive some satisfaction from it, by all means, continue. However, if your plate is full with commitments like work, family, friends, and other interests, it might be wise to prioritize those real-life obligations. The time and effort required for MW increasingly outweighs the monetary rewards, making it essential to consider the balance between investment and return.

To me the Boost system is going to end up like the reddit gold system. Majority of the users never used it but the minority that did only handed it out to the popular.

i completly agree with everything you said im in a similar position ie keychains not lightboxes but have managed to make it work haveing over 200 models but with very low stats ie 30 downloads a day over the whole collection not each (just managed to scape some crumbs left by the big model designers )

I will never get why, people are designing purely for rewards. Why did buy a 3D Printer? To farm rewards for free filament or another printer? To do what? Farm more? I have really a hard time understanding this.

Design what you need/want.
Do it with passion.
You cannot?
Start learning.

If people like it, be happy - you made someones day. Smile.
If it has benefits, be thankful.

Two things I would like to see:

  • A boost count on every model, I am less likely to boost something that already has gotten many boosts.
  • Incentives to use boosts. Nothing crazy, but potentially get points when you’ve used 5 or 10 boosts in consecutive weeks, this would get more users actively using the system.
