I think that this is a cool concept… but how is this fair that you can cut the point system rewards by so much. I understand the purpose of the boost system but how are smaller designers like me going to get points let alone boost points. I mean, the boost is a good idea but could please at least keep how many points you can get. That was what was motivating me to upload more models. Also this is a bigger drawback to begginers like me who are not CAD experts. this makes it harder for more people to upload if you cant get as many points or as much recognition. I love makerworld still but now things just get harder for many people.
Another solution would be that after every print or download, MW rewards you with 1 boost. that way both bigger and smaller less complex models get points
For the same reason that people are going to work in other professions they are not necessarily passionate about.
You have the potential to earn up to approximately €2,100 per month with a relatively low barrier to entry. To put it in perspective, this figure nearly matches the average yearly income of an entire household in some countries.
That is already in place.
Maybe for the same reasons as singers, actors, painters, babysitters, taxi drivers, coaches, doctors, temporary workers, freelancers…
It’s basic economics, when there’s an over abundance of models, the rewards will decrease, basic supply and demand.
But MW still the best pub in town. Although, I do believe the points will be even less in the future. So don’t let this change stop you from designing what you want, you’ll only look back and regret it later when the points are halved again.
I have read many comments and most of them seem to be getting boost point because they have nearly over 1k downloads. how is this fair to the rest of us if we are not getting any income
Hey everyone,
I’m all for exploring new strategies to tackle the issue of bots gaming our system. According to Bambu, they suspect that about 25% of distributed vouchers have been snatched up by point farming bots. That’s a significant drain on resources meant to reward genuine community members like us.
I hope Bambu will provide more opportunities to earn Boosts to gift to others through activities on Makerworld, but I understand they’re in the early days of testing this new system.
This shift in dynamics is influencing how I engage with the platform, but I see it as a positive change. Previously, my focus was primarily on creating A1 Mini print profiles for models that intrigued me but lacked compatibility with my printer. However, I’m now inclined to invest my time in honing my CAD skills and crafting original designs. With the adjustments to the print profile incentive and Boosts seemingly favoring designers exclusively, it makes sense to pivot towards creating fresh content.
Looking forward to seeing how these changes shape our community moving forward!
You have a point but dont you think it is very cheeky to make it go down so suddenly and so much? thanks for the tip
I am just trying to understand how 1 boost equals $1, if 1 boost only equals 11 points. But you need 490 points for a $40 gift card. So $1 in points is actually 12.25 points. That means 1 boost only equals $0.897. So either this is a sham or the gift card is being lowered to 440 points from 490 for $40…
No one gets treated differently. Everyone has the same amount of boosts and same amount of Credits for XX downloads.
If users decide to send their boost to the same designer then that’s fair - its their boost token.
It’s their money and website and they decide what to do with it.
It’s fair that we got credits in the past and it’s fair how we get credits now.
Could be tax related as they state “equivalent to 1$ gift card pre tax”
So you compare a reward system with a real job?
This is not a reliable system to generate income, and will never be.
You cannot eat filament or printers.
Watch me
dont get me wrong i still love makerworld and they did spoil us with how many points we got and i know it is their money and their website but i just dont quite understand how this is going to work out.
Maybe true. But they can buy food from their compensation.
Sure, but filament and printers do not feed the family. And i guess the landlord also is not happy with gift cards as payment.
This is not a reliable income stream, and it will never be.
The printers flip very fast for 5-10% below MSRP.
Do you know the concept of occasional, additional work? Just to earn extra money, for studies, holidays… ATTENTION, for filament, for a printer you can’t afford!
Could be. But I hate when companies do this ■■■■. Basically false advertising as unless you read the fine print you are mislead into not receiving what is being advertised. Is a false conception of the agreement. Would be better if they straight up said 1 boost equals $0.90 than 1 boost equals $1.00 if that be the case.
Well, Bambu is a business right, whatever is driving their decision is to make the company thrive or survive at the very least, if it doesn’t take action to protect its own budget, this whole thing will go away and I believe no one wants that. Most people saying they’ll leave now and go back to the other sites aren’t really serious about that, at least that’s what I think, they’re just hoping they can be loud enough to force Bambu to change course.
