Remix of a exclusive model

I’ve had requests to make a lamp i designed which is part of the exclusive model program, A1m compatible. The new design is a solid remix so would not want to upload it as a printprofile. My question is if i am allowed to upload it to makerworld as a new regular model?
I have submitted a inquiry to makerworld and my guess is they use AI aswers or a particularly bad version of google translate beceause the only answer i get is basically that remixes is not allowed in the exclusive program. Have anyone had any experience with this?

I think it is not allowed and there was an instance of somebody doing the same with a train track module that in my eyes was a solid new model but even then removed by bambu. He lost all (exclusive) points…

But for yourself as well, I suspect your current model is somewhat popular and the new one looks a lot like it. I would just do a print profile, because then it would also ride on the popularity and a new model has the chance of not getting picked up by the community. Especially if it’s only for A1 mini users.

And if it does get more popular then other users will start printing it as well while they would have been better off printing the original. So that’s why I would closely link the models: print profile

But in the end it’s hard for me to judge how different they are from your description

Is it new one? Call it new one!

Also - you can’t really remix your creation. I see remixing as mixing my creation with somebody else’s. Remixing my own? Sir, that’s my creation!

Just make sure to follow the rules in EMP regarding naming. So “thing v2” is out, but “minithing” could be a thing

I got similar problem. The idea of remixing yourself is at least strange to me, but with this niances of exclusive model program I rather be carefull. I made a clock in the shape of jet engine. During designing I was sure there will be 2 clocks - full engine with stand and something like 70’s “space age” round one. Both clocks share same front but different backs. If I would ever try to sell printed models, that’s totally different designs, but I’m not sure how Makerworld will treat that.

Full engine is already uploaded. I want to upload “mini” version now. Should I upload it as a new exclusive model?

It is a grey area. I would say these clocks are two different models. This is what the program says:

  1. Variations of existing models. For example, V2/V3 of the same filament clip or orange peeler. If it’s an entirely new design, rename it as a new model but not using the same name and adding a V2. Only enter one version into the program. Other versions of the same model will be removed for not meeting the requirement for originality.

And this is the takedown I referenced earlier:

In my mind also two different models, even though they look kind of similar. But it shows you can’t be too cautious

There are wall clocks and desk clocks, big clocks and small clocks.

I find it hard to imagine even MW can deny the existence of variations of clocks of which require different designs on top of the base structure of a clock.

I my case i was referring to it as a remix because it is based on another model i.e not original.

Regarding makerworld, i suspect they want to have a library of original contet with the exclusive program, thats why all models have the standard digital license. So they dont have to deal with 20 remixes of a popular model. But that license is for my, personal benefit, right? So if i upload it as a regular model and not in the exclusive program, they should not have anything to say about it. However, i then have a remix of an exclusive model i am free to share on other platforms. precisely what they aim to avoid.

In the end i do not think i am brave enough to jeopardize my existing points, especially when i have reformulated my question to makerworld 4 times and they still have no idea what i am talking about

Send photos and ask them.

Of what? The question is not if the are too similar. The question is if i am allowed to 'remix" my own exclusive model and upload it

I thought you wanted to know the correct option for MW not to take down the model.

You can’t remix your own model if we are using the literal definition of remix in the 3D printing sense.

A remix is a significant change to a designer’s model that has allowed third-parties to remix their work.

You are the first-party, you require no permission.

If your concern is the Exclusive program and can you enter a new design based on the idea of an existing model you already created then the rules are clear:

  • Any minor alterations should be profiles
  • If the new version is distinctly different then add it as a new model with a new name

Several people here believe a new clock based on an existing design you have created that has design changes to allow it to serve a different function that should be sufficient.

If you are unsure (as suggested already) create a ticket and ask providing photo of each and a description of the differences.

As I said earlier, clocks are more than time pieces, how they are mounted is an important difference is their purpose.

Thats my fault! I know they dont aprove remixes in the exclusive program. The question was if i am allowed to “remix” my exclusive model and upload it as a new, regular model. The question is where my rights start and stop and what makerworld has to say about it because the original model is part of the exclusive program

Do not fall down the rabbit hole SoDR. I really can’t understand the idea of remixing yourself. For me that’s not the remix at all! This is just another phase of your own creation, where making one model can lead you to making another one. Definitely putting one model as an exclusive is not blocking you from creating another variation of it. This would be absurd! Totally counter-creative idea. I see guys here have same opinion. I will probably not upload my “Mini” jet engine clock as exclusive because both using same front (and I mean exactly same shape and size front, backs are swappable) and both are desk clocks. But I will definitely upload it at least as standard model. They are different. Different people may be interested in them. If I were you, I would not even hesitate to upload another creation based on same idea. As long as it’s not simple resize or some minor, barely noticable tweaks.
