Restart a print stopped to add filament

I’m printing a 4-color item and one filament ran out but didn’t come off the spool, so the feed stalled. I pressed stop thinking I could resume after adding a new spool, but there is no resume option available.

I’m 24 hrs. in with 15hrs. to go - is there any way to recover and resume the print?

3. Reload filament and resume

  • On the printer’s touchscreen or in Bambu Handy, go to the Filament menu → Load filament (or similar) and let it load and purge a bit.

  • Once you see fresh filament coming out, press Resume / Play on the printer screen to continue the print from the same layer.

4. If it refuses to resume

  • If the printer won’t resume, manually heat the nozzle to your print temp (or ~10–20 °C higher), manually extrude a little to clear the old filament, then try Resume again from the printer’s UI instead of the app.

  • If you accidentally cancelled the print, you’ll need to restart the print from the beginning or slice a new “recovery” job; there’s no built‑in way to resume from a cancelled job.

Yes - if you know precisely which layer the print failed on, you can take your sliced file and edit the GCode to home only X and Y, and delete all the layers that are complete so it resumes right where it left off.

I’ll warn you that this requires a fair bit of skill, and getting it wrong can result in damage to your machine.

When your Printer has a function for remember the print state, mabye ou could switch it off, but thats risky. My A1 also can’t change Filament by pausing the print, since the new Firmware. Then its stuck in the loading menu and i have to switch it off :frowning:

Thanks to all for the replies.

I have previously been able to resume a print after reloading a filament, but in this case the spool drive was stalled since the filament end was firmly attached to the spool. Nothing I thought of at the time would allow me to unload the filament, so I pressed the only option shown to me on my P2S = stop. Even then it would not release, so I powered off. That released the stalled drive and allowed me to load a new filament but lost the print storage. (sigh)

After reading the other comments, I realize I should have tried cutting the filament from the spool and trying to find resume. That would (perhaps) have allowed me to add the new filament spool without powering down.

So, I have learned a few things:

  1. Make sure there is enough filament on the spool for the print … in case resume doesn’t work.
  2. Never press “stop” on the P2S, it means cancel. It doesn’t always offer pause.
  3. BL need to improve their SW to preserve partial prints in the event of issues - including I suspect power failure.
  4. The start-up power up requirements overload most small UPS’s - I tried.
