So when do I need to use glue?

So far I’ve mostly used PLA, and I’ve found that after its cooled down it’s pretty easy to pop the pieces of either the Textured PEI plate or the smooth PEI plate.

Lately, I’ve been experimenting with PETG-CF. Now these seem to stick like limpets to the plate, so much so that I think it might have even taken some of the texture off. It’s very hard to prise them off, even when completely cooled down.

Am I supposed to use glue for this filament, although logically wouldn’t that make it even harder to get them off?

If not, what’s the secret? An axe?

Counterintuitive, but glue can also work as a release agent.

That being said, the flex plate ought to bend enough for the parts to come loose.

PETG likes to adhere strongly to build plates. It can even bond permanently to surfaces like glass. My rule of thumb is to always use glue when using PETG. The glue isn’t to increase adhesion, but is actually used as a release agent so that the part can come away from the build plate without damaging it.

Agree completely with what everyone says, use glue (I like Elmer’s purple glue stick) and it will come off easier. I would add though that I have also found some PLA (a particular matte colored one) that does the same thing so I use the glue stick on it as well.

On another note, an axe does indeed work well, but you need to have a replacement plate available

Great, thanks, I have ordered some glue and will use it for PETG/PETG-CF.
