Wait what? Doesn’t every 3d printer brand with multicolor use purging and purge towers? How can you even patent that?
Stratasys be stratasysing.
I think $299 for full featured centauri carbon is insane too… I mean for $299 one can get Infimech TX, but it doesn’t have all the cool stuff already included with Elegoo CC (additional camera, aux fan and filter raise the price up to $359). On the plus side, Infimech Tx is openly klipper firmware so good on them
Insane would be if they’d give it for free… As it is, and considering the increased competition between manufacturers, I’d say the price is about right.
You rascals almost peer pressured me into ordering one… and by peer pressured I mean you talked about it, then @StreetSports and @NeverDie ordered one. I had it in my cart but I stayed strong and said not today Elegoo, not today… But MAN that is a good price. I’m still facing a space issue, I think the dog is going to have to move out. Can you have an “outside dog” at a condo?
Yeah, the fact that you could get three of these for the price of 1 P1S is crazy, Bambu’s gonna have to lower their prices.
Hahah you’re stronger than me, I caved
I think you could use the old adagio "dog on the porch "… or in your case, "dog on the staircase ", and argue it defends against the "unauthorized access " … Would be a sight to be seen… your dog’s face when realizing he gets replaced by a printer…lol
Don’t be ashamed @h3li0, others much stronger (see the names quoted by Mcgee above) have caved in much earlier than you. You should be proud of yourself, as you held longer than they did.
I don’t know whether it’s true or not, but I presume we effectively purchased an option which will automatically fulfill by the strike date if we do nothing, and I’m assuming we could probably cancel with little or no penalty if we change our mind before the shipment.
That’s what I realized after I hesitated on the $1000 K2 Plus and missed it: when opportunity knocks, pull the trigger! You’ll likely have time to reconsider.
Print a condo extension for the dog
What do you mean by missed it?
Oh dang, what was it priced at?
Another thing I bet the new Bambu printer will have is a filament jam/entanglement sensor. i.e. not just a run-out sensor, but one which senses if your filament gets entangled or jammed, so that it can interrupt the print, maybe soon enough that it can be recoverable.
I’m forgetting now which ones, but some printers on the market already have this feature, which probably adds very little to manufacturing cost. For a closed design like Bambulab, it’s probably better if the OEM provides it rather than source it from the aftermarket, as the runout sensor component is best located in the printhead, as close to the hotend as possible.
You mean basically what the AMS’s do right?
Actually, it looks as though Bambu already has a more elegant way of doing it:
Not owning an A1, I just wasn’t aware of it.
Yeah, so the material cost is basically zero. It’s all done in firmware and the driver circuitry.
Welp, I did it, but I got the Centauri because I don’t really need an enclosed print right now and if I do I can always enclose it easily enough. Besides, I got $10 off as well. So not too bad. Now I have a Kobra 3Max combo coming in march and the Centauri Sometime around May. Almost enough time to build the addition to the house. lol
As a side note i made an adapter to use Eryone cardboard with Sunlu reusable spools. Eryone is a sub-brand of Sunlu so same filament, I often buy if for less then $20 a kg in Canada when i buy in bulk which is very cheap. They have Hyper PLA as well for high speed printing, the only downside is the cardboard spool. The center hub size on the Eryone is too small to use with Bambu spools, but these Sunlu spools are perfect to be adapted.
My P1S stops printing whenever there is too much resistance and warns me of a tangle too, so all the printers already have it?
You’re right! I thought I remember undetected tangles or jams on my X1C, but maybe it was other printers. It all blurs together sometimes.
You’re probably remembering correctly, they can go undetected on the X1 and P1 printers because of how they handle it. It’s going by the filament sensor in the tool head so as long as filament is tripping that sensor sometimes it doesn’t catch them and the printer thinks everything is ok. With the A series printers they added the strain sensor at the tool head so even if a broken piece of filament is stuck in there the tension will set off the tangle detection.
Just a slightly different method but probably better.
The Centauri Carbon pricing at $299 is insane and won’t stay that way.
The AU pricing is $699 (444usd) for preorder and a retail price of $874 (555usd).
299usd is currently $470 here. All prices before shipping.
Not only is this well above the conversion rates, it also shows that they either
- intend to increase the price worldwide to something like 399 - 499 usd, or
- Will keep those prices in the market they want to disrupt (US and EU)
If we were getting it even remotely close to the US price I’d give it a go, but $699/$874 is not in the realm of “worth it even if it has issues”, preorders are months off assuming there are no delays, longevity is unknown yet so I wouldn’t be building a farm out of them at that price, and the big one for me is. What corners are being cut to get it to 299usd?
