Speculation about new printer announcements

I wonder who Ms. H.T. is…

Yup some filaments mark really well, but it’s entirely chemistry and color dependent at that wavelength. I think that one is PETG, and black of course.

its abs-gf i im not mistaken that he says in the video …

Yes, and maybe finer pitched as well.

I’ll be pissed if it has f—ing carbon rods again.

petg and pla didnt quite work good gor me… the thing is that layer lines and reflection dont do well in laser engraving, the abs-gf by having more fibres into it gives it a nice shine tho… colors like white and yellow didnt work at all for me

IIRC He used a combo of first layer Bambu ABS and the rest is Bambu ABS-GF.

Maybe hollow steel rods. We found out through a teardown video that’s what the X-Max 3 uses.

were did you see this  ? thats weird as a machinist i dont really understand how they can make some rods straight with a hole in it ? do they make the hole then grind the shaft after the treatments they put onto it ?

It’s a bit off topic, so I’ll PM you a link to the video rather than derail this thread. Unless a lot of people want to see it, then I’d do it here.

[Edit: I PM’d it. If anyone else is interested, send me a PM and I’ll send you the link.]

The laser looks similar to the Xtool D1 / D1 Pro. That tube going to it connects it to the air assist, which is an air pump that keeps what you’re burning from getting too hot.

YES, even in an enclosure the D1 got sawdust and debris everywhere. Even with the enclosure vented to the window I could still smell it through the house. If it’s a diode it will work great on certain colors and materials but not others. It’s got to be near impossible to do it in an environment with greased lead screws and other precision things.

" might perceivably cost" the cost based on what has been said about being more than the X1E and discusssions that have been happening on the forum for peoples assumed total cost

So everyone thinks this is a laser engraving tool for filaments that are only dark and non reflecting. Best to go with abs. You realy think they made a printer with a laser for only some materials? That sounds not right to me. And as somone sayed, there always will be fumes that thirdy your printer.

I don’t think they made a printer with a laser, I think they made a printer with an optional laser module.

If they have that laser, i hope it is optional as you say. I dont want to spend money on something i realy dont want in my printer to make a mess of the build room.

yeah… some printers are made for certain users. I hope they are not making a laser engraver for the printer, or if they do hopefully we can take the option of not having to buy the laser engraver as i would never want this in the same box as my 3d printer :stuck_out_tongue:

That would be my assumption too, since we see it off to the side I’d imagine its an optional attachment much like a lot of machine out there have. Diode and at 10w isnt really etching metal or doing anything close to heavy duty work. I’m not sure what the practical use in 3D Printing would be (not being a fiber laser) since you’ll just melt the plastic more so than get something clean. and you’ll only be able to do darker colors or have to color the lighter color with a sharpie first. I have a standalone diode laser so this option isn’t something I would use in my 3d printer but maybe they can figure out a decent enough use case and not just a gimmick to add on for more monies. Having the laser would definately warrant marketing to a more prosumer as well as their desire for increased security.

Does it also look like the bottom of the machine is now on level with the edge so you can sweep stuff right out instead of having a lip in the way or is that just my perceptive cuz that would be super annoying to try and sweep out lasered debris and such with the stupid lip in the way again

So one of the big features is one which few people seem to want? I’d trade it for 400x400 build area.

NP, that makes sense to me, fiber galvos are the setup for plastic marking.

Some materials leaked:

Oh yeah I’d try a bigger print area for the laser all day long.
