Speculation about new printer announcements

Ok, than lets do it - this week i get really surpriesd.

A YouTuber I’ve been watching for a long time! I almost fell off my chair when he uploaded a 3D Druck video. Never thought he would ever look at 3D Printing!

He now probably gets the award: Most viewed YouTuber ever released a 3D printing video.

In the future this will look like how we now view the past use of x-ray machines for checking shoe size against fit–incredibly naive. Heck, it already looks that way, at least to me.

Yeah, I couldn’t watch very far into that video. It was so incredibly ignorant, I had to look away.

Ive been doing nonstop multi nozzle printing and I can say that the ooze blocker is covered in every filament ive ran. Its a poor design that I hope gets fixxed. I bent it in on my 4th print and had to bend it back. I almost always have a stringer hanging from a nozzle or the wiper itself, so ive had to turn a.i. ditection off.

They put a ton of thought into the switching mechanism but looks like they ran out of time on the actual ooze blocker arm.

My general rule of thumb is that no 3d printed object should touch wet, hot, or prepared foods. Like maybe something like dry uncooked rice… but like there’s so many pores and little crevices in 3d printed plastics, that it’s just a breading ground for germs and such. The only thing I really use 3d printed stuff for in the kitchen is drawer organizers.

I hate the chicken shredder the most. He didn’t even get a clean print off of it, but used it anyway. Like can you imagine if someone that didn’t know better tried printing that with PLA? Those tips alone would be so prone to breaking off and finding their way into your chicken. Wont be micro-plastics at that point! But full on chunks.

In general, I think people are irresponsible when it comes to kitchen focused models. I’ve seen a lot of models that just shouldn’t exist because of the health and safety risk they’d pose. I think videos like that are irresponsible because they do nothing to warn of those risk.

I haven’t watched the video, I couldn’t get past the horrible AI generated thumbnail. I consider myself an expert on horribly done AI images, as I’ve made so many myself… but what is that? I know it is supposed to be a 3D printer but it looks like a laser is zapping pieces off an already printed pizza cutter.

I never would have imagined that the average person would be carrying plastic particles in their brain equal in mass to a plastic spoon, and increasing at 6% annually. That’s really frightening. I can’t help but wonder if it’s even more for 3D printing hobbyists. I can’t believe the outcome will be benign. Our bodies didn’t evolve to rid themselves of such things. We need immediate animal studies to figure out what the cognitive and other implications are likely to be. And most importantly, where is it all coming from so we can shut it off?

This is a very extensive topic, impossible to answer over all. A non-binding answer that may be wrong and is very short.

You can find guidelines in the BfR and the FDA, I don’t have to check that for others for there products, thats there job.

Of course, is it more far, it is also more safe. But even if it is far away that does not necessarily mean that it is safe from ingestion, only the dose (e.g. abrasions on skin/hand contamination) and the general risk may decreases.

Even just the pure skin contaminated can be absorbed into the body. The shell skin does not need to be swallowed either and so on… Just Place a contrast agent on a doorknob and it will spread across everyone’s face. May you anyway eat about 5 grams of plastic per week from unsafe sources. May Microplastics are even found in drinking water? May there are some things where 5 grams would certainly be much more fatal, but your body is also very good at excreting contaminants but sometimes even a single gramm can by to much. To know this, that’s the job of others. I adhere to the relevant guidelines, chack on my own actions, check my suppliers, and see that they also have to take responsibility for their own actions. By the way, color is made from pigments… There are colors that don’t fit certain statements and don`t neet to run all the way to China for a prove to my business liability insurances because of filament (just in case something is happen)…?!

In general, I can’t say what this kitchen YouTube chanel has to check in this produktline. In general there are on some places things like: Designer, manufacturing and commissioning resposibility. This can vary not only from continent to continent, but even from country to country. I don’t know how much that applies for him since he has to press a button and someone else created the design and even reads is readet thrue the RFID tag. I do not know how much “pure User” he is and how much “Manufactorer” and “Commissioning” he become. I simply don`t know, may he is still a pure user since he just need to push a simple buttom?! And the product is made by Bambulab? How knows…

If I bus a product, I look at the CE, look how responsibily persons take care on. With filaments, perhaps they come from Europe—this makes dealing with my business liability and the supplier a little easier in the unlikely event. At least I didn’t have to explain to my insurance company in an unfortunate moment that the filament was made in China. However, that doesn’t mean that it’s safe from Europe. You also have to read up on the specific case, etc., and whether your insurance covers it is something everyone has to check and read by themselves and will carry ther responsibility. I don’t need to know who is responsible if I have nothing to do with. Distributors, users, developers, manufacturers, everyone has their rights and their duties.

. I don’t look at everything, but if I see statements like single-drive extruders are makred as dual-drive extruders and so on - I such cases I also do no longer have to look at every piece of paper and logo, since there are others as well…

And after watching the CNC kitchen video with Bambulab again - no, better not. It’s really starting to become too much the look like a hobby just to spend time. There are really professional affordable lasers nearby which ar running almost 24/7 and the income is small (huge machine cost and profit may in the last 3% of opertaion hours). But however, you master CAD or you don’t and if persons just lokking for hobbies feel free and start getting a add. Laser to a printer… if it needed, may just get the laser since this buissnes is taff. And if you are a Hobbiest how anyway won`t charge (which is fine too) and the product anyway never will sale or just on Etsy for nothing? Ok, it for Hobby, thas all I need to know.

Eufymake is up to 8000 backers/almost $20M, not too shabby. Maybe Bambu Lab is kicking themselves for not beating them to this market.

If you hang around the groups they’ve already got backer “fanboys” who will tell you to “just cancel your pledge” if you start drawing comparisons to other machines and they will get upset at you for “spoiling their fun”. So not limited to just Bambu. :slight_smile:

It’s so cheap I backed one as a throw-away. People are comparing it to the bad parts of Glowforge, and it is that, but it has some real pluses over similarly priced no-name printers from China. They next comparable big name one is 4x the price and for crafters they aren’t going to notice the difference in limited use.

What are you planning to print with it?

High-resolution and customer-specific always works – I once posted something here that was a huge hit with personalized Mother’s Day gifts fuly through the roof top.

In the past (30 years ago), you could get a 18,000- USD embroidery machine (today you get them for 6000 USD) and embroider Costumer names on a pillow and you were done. This was the business of a relative getting 80 years old, today there is Aliexpress… Today it simply has to be more, next year it has to be more again and the cheap workers in Asia do not sleep :wink: Today you just need to be extrimly qick, always on track and much more clever… or as I do, serve high end costumers which always coming back. Were trust is everthing and you do everthing to keep the trust and there machine just needs to run :wink:

If Bambulab stand still for two years and don’t deliver anything, they’re simply gone. It’s the way it always was and always will be. Bambulab will have for sure a few years more left, than they simply have to slim down and just need to kick out employs acording to the sails. As the way always goes…

Photo realistic hueforges of weddings and graduations would sell like hot cakes. They say the layers can be stacked. Not sure what the max z is though.

Most likely your local mall has one of those small shops with a flat bed UV printer in it that can print stuff for you if you just want to try it out or have limited needs. Some people in the PCB etching community were doing that even years ago. Look for the people who can print pictures on coffee mugs and then negotiate a price. They thrive on printing chatski’s. If there were more demand you’d probably find them at a farmer’s market or an art fair.

Of course, a lot of malls have been shuttered in the last decade, so YMMV. In that case, you may have to go to a print shop, especially the ones that can print signs, which are mostly still around.

Im really interested in the tech more than that actual printer. I think this tech is the end game for 3d printing. Sucks that this particular one only does 5mm. Cheap resin/ink will come eventually.

I think mine has several kiosks where they print phone cases on demand. The kickstarter seems successful but it’s only 8000 printers. If a 1/3 of them end up in the US it’s like 1 per 100000 people?

Not sure if Bambu could have gotten in on this even if they wanted to. Anker must be 10x bigger? Bambu is trying to find some synergy and overlap for their distribution and makeworld, laser is good but UV printing would have been better.
