Speculation about new printer announcements

… and see your frustration building up, piece by piece

Oh… That’s not kind. But those Kit Kat’s might add up. How about this? Weigh yourself now as a baseline and then again when you’re done? Then tell us the difference. That would be maybe a good way to measure cumulative frustration. Well, just an idea. Either that or count the number of KitKat wrappers.

This way we have found a new way to measure build ease or difficulty: in KitKat’s!

“How was the build, Joe?”
“OMG. It was 20 KitKat’s. The PolyCarbonate alone cost me 5 KitKat’s.”
"I could live with that. The Beacon build was over 87 KitKat’s…and a few lost Hobbits. "

Having fun with the Voron now. The frustration will come when commissioning and initial startup lol. Ive never built a config file from scratch and ill be adding beacon at the same time. Better stock up on kit-kats lol

The Ratrig frustration will come when I move (printer doesnt fit through a doorway).

hmm

See @NeverDie , i was (am) right…
Now start piling up “kittens” to pay the man for demolishing and then repairing his walls before and after moving the ratrig out of the house.
Keep a dozen or so on the side, as I might consider coming over to enjoy the show, and i might get hungry.

I may be in over my head with the ratrig. When the panels showed up, it was shocking. In my mind, i originally thought “500mm is just 2 bambus”, but in actuallity, its 4 bambus on top of 4 bambus. Plus room for an internal spool for each head.

They are planning on selling them fully built eventually. Imagine the dude that buys 1 prebuilt and cant get it in the house.

No big deal. The garage. Matter of fact, maybe you want to build yours there? Then moving would be a breeze. Out and then in to your next garage. Easy Peezy.

I put a second Y motor on a Neptune 3 Pro… Originally I was going to put a second X motor on also but I kinda got bored with the whole thing. I was however the first person to submit an Elegoo printer to the speed benchy leader board.

Look at this complete waste of time and money LOL…

I wouldn’t call it a waste of time. You never know where you might put those new skills to work. Seems to me you may be one of the lucky ones with “The Knack”. That’s a good thing, and worth celebrating. The world needs more people with “The knack.”

However, I do have a question: If I print a benchy that’s barely recognizable in 6 minutes, does that mean I win? Well, not in my mind it wouldn’t. Seems to me the goal of the benchy competition should be how quickly you can print a flawless benchy. Then the times mean more, because it’s comparing apples to apples, and it would suggest the stuff you can print at amazing speeds is stuff worth keeping, owning, selling, whatever. Maybe you can explain, but this aspect of the competition always puzzled me. Maybe there’s some other metric than flawless, which is a high bar. Like, for instance, could you sell the thing you just printed in the condition it was in for $0.10 or $1 or–name the price–and people would line up to buy it? I don’t know what the right metric is, but surely something.

Thank you, I truly appreciate that.

Yes, yes you would lol. Seriously, I totally agree with you though. They took a poll 3 years ago asking if they should implement quantity standards and it was overwhelmingly yes… but they never did for some reason. This is the current world record holder

My goal was to keep improving the quality after I got all the upgrades done… but that was about the time the design bug bit me and I started learning fusion. I’ve actually printed some things at reasonable speeds using this printer and they came out good so it’s still useful. Also I would say my biggest weakness in 3D printing is slicer profiles so that probably didn’t help this.

The metric I really wanted to meet was printing at the same speed and quality as the X1C… that didnt happen but I think If I put more time in it I might get close… maybe.

To this point I don’t understand why Bambu puts the spool holders on the side.

Oh I know it’s that it will use a bunch of space on the side, which is not ideal for print farms. Then again why Flashforge put it on the side?
Some company might give us an awesome printer with spoolholder holes everywhere… Though it would definitely look disgusting…

Got me into thinking. If you raise the stakes more then you can say that even the benchys on a Bambu is still bad…

I wonder if there could be a competition featuring the best Benchy, not considering speed.

Quality is tough to judge and well, would require a ton of judges to rate incoming benchies. Imagine the cluster of complainers. The timer is set in stone. Sorry if this is a poor way of saying it. I woke up 5 minutes ago.

"Speed"boat challenge. We should create a “yacht” challenge here. Highest quality under 15 minutes

Oh? I’d like to see a benchy without any hull line… Or is there already one?

Oh yeahhhh there is

So Discord isn’t the greatest method of storing/finding/archiving information but a while back on the Orca Discord, under the profiles section I found a lenghty thread where someone had tuned the heck out of an X1C profile.
Bambu_Lab_X1_Carbon_0.2_and_0.4_nozzle_-_IG.3mf (40.7 KB)

You’ll have to change the extention from .3mf to .orca_printer

If you use Discord here’s the thread

I like that the color is shown via LED. For us blind folk.

Lol, when I saw that I wondered if the lid is very tinted in real life and they just enhanced the spools for the picture. You think it will work with anything running Klipper? They would drop this right after my two box turtle pre-orders

I believe it will be Klipper based. Klipper is the way lol. Based on the BOM of the box turtle, it will most likely be very high quality compared to all these other units but not as noob friendly. I asked West3d about it when I was there and they said they are still planning on late december and that its very good. The way they designed the base, there will be all kinds of modded lids with heaters and whatnot.

100%!!! Makes sense about the Boxturtle, plus BIQU/BTT have disappointed me recently with some of the “Panda” products… having said all that I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt to buy just one of these, you know, to compare it lol…

My question is, how does it change filaments?
